A drug de-addiction awareness programme was organised at Government Degree College Surankote in collaboration with Sir Syed Education mission (SOCH India) under the aegis Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. 

The event was part of an awareness campaign of the college to prevent drug abuse.Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M.Choudhary was the Chief Guest on the occasion.Prof. Khaleeq Qazi NSS program officer conducted the proceedings.

Dr. Mohd. Ashfaq HOD Geography, as the key-note speaker delivered an expert talk on the “counselling a way forward to overcome drug addiction and make India drug free”. 

He emphasized that the students must be counselled properly at various level so that they remain away from the drug menace.Sub-Judge, Syed Wajahat Hussain Kazmi, threw light upon the dire consequences of drug addiction and emphasized the need for immediate action to combat this prevailing menace. 

With his vast experience in dealing with legal matters related to drug addiction, he offered valuable insights into the legal implications and ramifications associated with substance abuse.

 DC in his enlightening speech elaborated on multitude of career opportunities available to graduating students, emphasizing their significance in deterring them from falling into the grip of drug addiction. He shared his insights on the severity of the drug addiction crisis.

Bollywood actors Sarwar Mir and Inamul Haq who were also connected with the audiences virtually deliberated upon the issue and conveyed their message to students to stay away from drug addiction.

In addition to a significant number of students and faculty members, the seminar received the esteemed presence of prominent dignitaries from the Pir Panjal region.

This distinguished group included Hamid Ali SDPO Surankote, Anjum Bashir, Basharat Hussain ARTO, Akbar Hussain Tehsildar Surankote, Dr. Nargis, Mohd Afzal NT, Arif Kazmi beside others. 

On the occasion college administration took the opportunity to felicitate Anjum Bashir Khan Tehsildar Haveli for his contribution in the establishment of field botanical garden of Higher Education at Shiendra Poonch.Dr. Mussarat Jabeen, HOD Arabic presented the vote of thanks.
