As we are all well versed with the ongoing wrestlers protest in which India’s top wrestlers are on a protest at Jantar Mantar of Delhi since 23 April 2023  demanding the arrest of their federation chief Brij Bhushan Singh. The situation is getting worse day by day but no action has been taken in favour of the protesters rather they are being abused and assaulted by the police.

Yes, you heard that right, yesterday during the later hours of 3 May 2023, the wrestlers and the police got into a fight which led to injuries to some of the protesters. All this started when Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician Somnath Bharti arrived at Jantar Mantar at night with folding beds for the wrestlers as they had no place to sleep due to heavy rainfall but the Delhi Police stopped Bharti due to permission issues.

All this led to a fight between them and the wrestlers too got involved in which many got injured including Vinesh Phogat’s cousin brother Dushyant Phogat. Vinesh Phogat alleged that a police man who was drunk assaulted her brother and another shoved her while no lady police officer was present at the moment.

Vinesh Phogat said, “I was abused and pushed around by policemen. Where were the women police personnel? If you want to kill us, kill us. Did we win medals for the country to see this day? We have not even eaten our food. Does every man have a right to abuse women? These policemen are holding guns, they can kill us.” While the police denied that any official was drunk on the site and also denied beating up anyone.

"The way they have made us suffer, I would not want any athlete to win a medal for the country," Vinesh told the media later. The wrestlers are even planning to return their medals as Vinesh said, “We will return all our medals. We are being humiliated and abused by the police,” while speaking to reporters this morning.

Other than this Vinesh also claimed that testimonies are yet to be recorded, despite the FIR being lodged on 28 April. Delhi Police have been  barricading multiple places in the city so that the public don’t reach there and are taking special care of it.

While Bajrang Punia claimed that Police is safeguarding Brij Bhushan. He said. "Delhi Police's plan is to scupper the protests and get Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh out of this with no scratches, but through the media, I am confirming again that we will not back down from our stance, come what may. The CCTV footage will prove that we were just trying to get our beds peacefully. It were the drunk police officers who turned to violence and started abusing and manhandling us. Three of our wrestlers got injured.”

Moreover, today on Thursday the Apex Court will be hearing the plea of the seven wrestlers who filed complaint against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh accusing him of sexual harassment. Many political personalities are reaching Jantar Mantar one after another in support of the wrestlers.
