Continuing his campaign in favour of Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary said on Sunday that the by poll was a golden opportunity for people to elect the first woman member of parliament from Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency.
He said Jalandhar has never sent a woman in the Indian Parliament, and the by poll has given us a historic opportunity to make a right choice.MLA Chaudhary addressed election meetings in Chhokran, Apra, Turan, Masani and Cheema Kalan villages of the Phillaur assembly constituency.
Addressing the party supporters, he spoke about the Congress party's and Chaudhary family’s commitment to the development of Phillaur and urged them to vote for them in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by poll.
He said the Congress party has taken several steps for women empowerment over the last decades, including providing reservations in the Panchayati Raj institutions, adding that Congress has also advocated to reserve 33% of seats in the Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies for women.
Criticizing the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, MLA Chaudhary said it was a party of event managers, who focused only on advertisements and image management. “Rather than being a party of ‘Aam Aadmi’, the common man, it has become a party of ‘Ad Aadmi’ with a focus on spending hundreds of crores of rupees just to glorify two men.
The Congress party is the only alternative and challenger to the Aam Aadmi Party government’s deceits and false promises and people should make the right choice in the by poll,” he said.
He said her mother, Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, was the most educated candidate, who will continue the legacy of her late husband Chaudhary Santokh Singh in serving the people of Jalandhar with the same level of dedication and service.
