DHS, GDC Doda host debate competition on ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’

District Health Society and Government Degree College Doda organised a debate competition under the banner of ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ at Community Hall Doda today. 

The aim of the programme was to sensitise young people to the adverse effects of drugs on addicts and society. The theme was Early Detection of Drug Abuse and Post-Detection Management for Youth of the District. 

The competition was inaugurated by District Magistrate, Vishesh Mahajan, who is also Chairman of the District Level Committee of Narco Coordination (NCORD). en students from GDC Doda participated in the debate competition. Pawan Kotwal, Qurat-Ul-Ain and Minkle Devi of GDC Doda secured the first, second and third positions respectively. 

Vishesh Mahajan spoke at the event and emphasised the need for mass awareness about the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign to eradicate the drug menace from society. He said that young people can play an active role in making society free from this evil.

The District Magistrate reiterated that the administration is committed to making the district drug-free and has already taken major steps towards achieving this goal. The District Police have intensified their efforts to break the supply chain and convict drug peddlers. 

He informed that drug testing kits will be introduced in educational institutions to detect addicts at an early stage. He expressed his firm commitment that no drug peddler will be spared or sheltered and all drug addicts will be rehabilitated and rejuvenated in the district.

The programme was attended by CMO Doda, Dr Hamid Zargar; Incharge Principal GDC Doda, Dr Aijaz Wani; DEPO Doda, Ayaz Mughal; Dy CMO Doda, Dr Om Kumar; Nodal Officer for Drugs Rehabilitation/De-addiction Centre GMC Doda, Dr Zia Showkat, faculty of GDC Doda, doctors and students. 

Dr Zia Showkat also gave a detailed presentation on the causes and effects of drug abuse, routes of administration and types of drugs. He informed that 250 patients/addicts are currently undergoing treatment at their De-addiction Centre at GMC Doda.
