A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Rahul Pandey at the DC office complex today. Detailed discussions were held on the enforcement of traffic rules, awareness activities on road safety, identification of black spots and road safety audits.

The DC emphasised the importance of effective implementation of measures to make roads safe for travel and called for all stakeholders to work together to reduce road accidents in the district.

He urged for mass awareness about safety rules and corrective measures to make roads safer for commuters. He directed Xen PWD (R&B) Kathua to improve road markings and signages to eliminate high-risk stretches and black spots.

PWD(R&B) was instructed to regularly maintain roads to prevent accidents and identify black spots for corrective measures such as signboards, speed limits and crash barriers.

Pandey also stressed the need to educate the public about road safety rules and directed ARTO Kathua to organise special road safety awareness camps. For strict enforcement of traffic rules, he asked MVA and traffic authorities to carry out special drives and take stern action against violators.

He also called for MVD staff to be deployed at toll posts to check vehicle overloading. The DC instructed concerned officers from Kathua MC to involve taxi and auto drivers before commissioning a taxi cum auto stand at an identified location.

The meeting was attended by ADC Basohli, ARTO Kathua, SDM Hiranagar, CMO, Chief Education Officer, Executive Engineer PWD (R&B), AEE PWD (R&B) Basohli and representatives from Government Degree Colleges and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), among others.
