District Development Commissioner, Inder Jeet reviewed the Pre-conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition Of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 in a meeting with the members of District Advisory Committee here today.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Anis Altaf Nabi gave a presentation on district-wise status of implementation of provisions of PCPNDT Act. DDC emphasised that gender bias and sex determination is a critical public health concern which can be regulated through effective implementation of PCPNDT Act.
He instructed CMO to form a committee comprising medical and administrative officials to conduct an assessment of all registered ultrasound clinics for conformity to PCPNDT Act. He directed CMO to submit a compliance report and overall status of ultrasound clinics in the district within 10 days.
DDC also emphasised on creating awareness among public on female foeticide and legal consequences of illegal termination of pregnancy through ICT activities. He asked CMO to consider cancellation of entities found deficient in terms of any provision of the Act.
