To mark Lohri Festival which symbolizes the arrival of longer days after the winter solstice, the Department of Music, Heritage Club and SAP Club, Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur in collaboration with Shikshit Bharat Club today celebrated Lohri Festival at college campus.  

The entire program began with offering “Aarg” to the sacred bonfire by Prof. Kewal Kumar, Initiating Principal of the College along with other senior staff members and students of the college.

Prof. Kewal Kumar informed the students that this is one of the first Indian festivals of the new year and is celebrated with great energy and excitement. He said that Lohri is also one of the important festivals for farmers as they rejoice and also hope for good crop. 

The entire programme coordinated by the Dr. Kewal Kumar Covenor SAP Club, Prof Yash Paul, Convenor Heritage Club and Prof. Yash Kumar, Department of Music. The program ended with ceremonial dance performance by the staff and students of the college. 

Besides, the event was graced by the presence of Dr. Sanjeet Kour, Ashni Devi,  Sumita Rao,  Tania Akhtar,  Sanjay Kumar, Ms. Ruksana Kousar,  Tania Mahajan, Binny,  Suneel Singh, Shallu Jasrotia,  Rajinder Singh, Mushtaq Ahmad, Rekha Rani, Shama Rani,  Dr. Sanjay Kumar,  Arun Gupta, other teaching, non- teaching staff and large number of students.
