DC Kupwara inspects essential services, Snow clearance operation in district

Almost all roads under priority-1 and priority-2 were on Friday thrown open for traffic in Kupwara after the district recorded highest accumulation of Snow in Kashmir Valley on Thursday. 

The DC accompanied by concerned officers today visited various markets of Kupwara Town, Sub District Hospital Kupwara, Receiving Station Tikker, Mechanical Engineering workshop Bumhama and took stock of the Snow clearance operation and other related issues.

During his visit to SDH Kupwara, the DC interacted with patients and staff and enquired about facilities being provided to the patients.  He directed Hospital administration for maintaining proper heating systems in the wards.

While inspecting the Mechanical Engineering workshop at Bumhama, the DC was informed that 17 Snow clearance machines are available in the district and are in operation across the district.  

He was informed that Snow has been cleared from all roads falling under priority-1 and 2 and traffic is plying normally on Kupwara-Handwara; Kupwara-Sopore; Kupwara-Chowkibal; Kupwara-Lolab; Kupwara-Kalaroose; Kupwara-Vilgam; Handwara-Zachaldara; Handwara-Langate; Kupwara-Hyhama and other such routes.

Besides, it was also informed that Snow has been cleared from all roads leading to essential installations including Health institutions, Hospitals, Government Offices. 

The DC said that he has already directed all officers and field functionaries to play a proactive role in resolving public issues and informed the public that Tehsildars and SHOs can be contacted as first response in case of any emergency and support.

He said the District Disaster Management Control Room, headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, is functioning 24x7 to take calls from the public any time, besides Departments have already established Control Rooms for immediate response.

During the inspection of Receiving Station Tikker, the DC was informed that power supply was restored properly as all men and machinery were pressed into service to restore power supply.

However, it was also informed that only Machil and Keran remains cut-off due to technical faults in the 33kv line which shall also be restored forthwith as men and machinery are on the job. 

The DC congratulated people for having the blessing of God in the form of Snow, adding that the administration is on forefront to resolve grievances. The District Level Disaster Management Control Room is already functional round the clock with contact Numbers: 9419268121; 01955253522 and 7780937892.

Meanwhile, people across the district have expressed their gratitude towards the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray for putting immediate efforts to clear the snow from the roads.
