To spread the message of unity and universal brotherhood on the eve of International Human Solidarity day, Government College for Women Udhampur on Wednesday organised a Symposium cum Cultural Programme on the topic “Unity in Diversity” here on the college campus.

The program was organised by NSS, Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Club and Department of Music under the guidance of Principal of the college Dr. Monika Sharma. The event was coordinated by Dr. Seema Sharma, HOD Music, Dr. Kewal Kumar, Convenor Sap Club, Prof Sumita Rao and Prof Sanjay Kumar POs. 

The whole event was observed under Dr. Sanjeet Kour, Nodal officer AKAM. Dr. Monika Sharma, Principal of the College graced the event as Chief Guest and lauded the efforts of NSS, SAP Club and Department of Music for organsing the awareness program on such an important day which will go a long way in spreading the message of unity and universal brotherhood among students and general masses. 

She urged the students to come forward to disseminate the awareness among the common masses. She further said that the masses in general have the important role in maintaining unity in diversity and help in boosting developmental activities to usher in an era of prosperity in every field.

In the morning, a scintillating cultural program was presented by artists of Union Church District Udhampur which was highly applauded by the audience. They sang beautiful carols and made students and staff dance to their tunes.  

Dr. Bishop Thomas joined the event in the later half and spoke about the peace love and harmony in detail. The event was also graced by Paster Charan Dass, Paster Bakshi, Paster Naresh, Paster Andrew Thomas and Pastor Ravi kumar.

In the afternoon, a symposium on the topic “Unity in Diversity” was organized in which as many as 11 students participated and expressed their views in both Hindi and English languages. Dr. Anita Sharma, Associate Professor of Physics, Dr.  Kewal Kumar, Assistant Professor of Botany and Mrs. Tania Mahajan, Assistant Professor of Zoology were acted as jury members. 

On the basis of judgment made by jury members, Anita student of Sem -V clinched first position while Kriti Sharma student of Sem -V and Lakshmi Devi student of Sem V secured second and third position respectively.

The proceedings of the entire program were conducted by  Radhika Sharma, a student of Sem-V and formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sanjeet Kour, nodal officer AKAM. Among others, Kewal Kumar, Associate Prof. of Chemistry, Ashni Devi, Associate Prof. of Botany, Dr. Sushma Choudhary, Assistant Professor of Dogri,  Shallu Jasrotia, Assistant Professor of Music, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music and Yash Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music, were graced the event with their benign presence.
