To spread awareness among the students and general masses, an awareness program on “Road Safety” was held in Government College for Women Udhampur under the guidance of the Principal, Dr. Monika Sharma.

The event was organised by Road Safety Club (RSC) and Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Club under the convenorship of Rajinder Singh (Nodal Officer RSC) and Dr Kewal Kumar (Convenor SAP Club) in collaboration with Dainik Jagran Udhampur and Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.

Principal of the College, Dr. Monika Sharma, graced the event as Chief Guest and appreciated Road Safety Club and SAP Club for organising such awareness programs in educational institutions that will go a long way in sensitizing the students as well as masses regarding the road safety, traffic rules etc which is the need of the hour.

Earlier, Rajinder Singh, Nodal Officer RSC presented the formal welcome address and briefed the students about the purpose of road safety awareness. He told the students that lack of knowledge of road safety, traffic rules, road signals etc in the general public as well as among the youth is one of the major causes of road accidents. 

Assistant Professor History, Yash Paul,  and Associate Professor Urdu, Dr. Mool Raj,  were the resource persons. Asst Prof Yash Paul spoke on the Road safety guidelines and encouraged the students to obey traffic signals, boards and signs, drive their vehicles in permitted speed, avoid drunk driving, carry driving license and all necessary documents such as vehicle registration, insurance etc. 

Besides he urged the girl students to wear helmets while going outside even for a distance of 100 meters. Dr. Mool Raj acquainted the students with various traffic rules in detail like when we turn, how to keep left or right, where to park and where not to park, how to use indicators, not to move on the wrong side on a one way road, do not cross the stop line, etc. 

Besides explaining the meaning of various traffic symbols, he advised the students not to go for overloading or triple riding in two wheelers. Meanwhile a pledge ceremony was also organized where all the students and faculty  pledged to follow the Road Safety Rules and spread the message of road safety among their near and dear.

As many as 575 students of the college attended the awareness program. The program was coordinated by Dainik Jagran Bureau Chief Udhampur Amit Mahi. The proceedings of the entire program was conducted by Anita Anthal student of  Sem-V and  the formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Kewal Kumar, Convenor SAP Club.

Among others,  Kewal Kumar, Associate Prof. of Chemistry, Ashni Devi, Associate Prof. of Botany,  Sarika Mahajan, Assistant Professor of Electronics, Sumita Rao, Assistant Professor of Zoology,  Tania Mahajan, Assistant Prof. of Zoology, Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Dr. Sushma Choudhary, Assistant Professor of Dogri, Pooja Bharti, Assistant Professor of Geography, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music and  Yash Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music, also graced the event with their benign presence.
