To generate awareness among the students and masses, a 2 day workshop on the topic "Prevention of Sexual harassment of Women at workplace/Institutions” was inaugurated today by the Principal of the host college Dr. Monika Sharma at Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur under the aegis of ‘My Town My Pride’ and ‘My College My Pride’.

The workshop was organized by the Committee against Sexual Harassment (CASH) in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of GCW Udhampur under the convenorship of Dr Seema Sharma (convenor CASH) and Dr Kewal Kumar (Co-Convenor IQAC).

 Yasmeen, Advocate Member Juvenile Justice Board, Udhampur was the resource person in the workshop. Dr. Monika Sharma, Principal of the College graced the event as Chief Guest and appreciated the efforts of Organisers for organsing such awarenss workshops in educational institutions that will go a long way in sensitizing the students as well as masses regarding the sexual harassment of women and the various measures to overcome their issues.

Earlier, in her welcome address, Convener CASH, Dr. Seema Sharma gave a brief account of the workshop and highlighted the importance of the workshop in generating awareness among the students on harassment of women at workplace/institutions.

The morning session of the Workshop was started by enlightening the lamp by dignitaries followed by patriotic songs presented by students of the Department of Music. While speaking on the occasion, Resource Person Ms Yasmeen explained in detail the various definitions of Harassment. 

She also acquainted the students about various acts and provisions related to Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of sexual harassment issues in the workplace/institutions. She also briefed about Bhanwari Devi Case of Rajasthan and Vishaka Guidelines. 

Besides, she advised the students to use their rights wisely and no law should be misused by anyone. An allegation by the women is not enough to make an arrest. The police must investigate the matter and then register a complaint, under the sections they deem fit, she added.

She also informed the audiences that many times laws for protection of women are being misused as per the surveys conducted at different parts of the country. The evening session was preceded by the interaction and counseling of the students with the resource person Ms Yasmeen. 

During the session, students and faculty of the college share and express their own personal problems as well as discussed some cases from their surrounding regions regarding sexual harassment. The resources person provided possible solutions to their problems very amicably and satisfactorily.

As many as 113 students of the college attended the workshop. Later, the students of the college presented a scintillating cultural programme based on traditional rich folk culture which was highly applauded by the audiences.

The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Sanjana Bandral, a student of Sem-I while formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Sumita Rao. The event was graced by the presence of  Kewal Kumar, Associate Prof. of Chemistry,  Ashni Devi, Associate Prof. of Botany, Dr. Mool Raj, Associate Professor of Urdu,  Sarika Mahajan, Assistant Professor of Electronics.  

Parmjeet Singh, Assistant Prof. of Computer Science,  Tania Akhter, Assistant Prof. of English, Mr Yash Paul, Assistant Professor of History,  Tania Mahajan, Assistant Prof. of Zoology, Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Rajinder Singh, Assistant Professor of Punjabi Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music,  Yash Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music,  Arun Gupta, Librarian and  Anju Sharma.
