A two day workshop on “Farm Mulberry Cultivation Practices” was today organised by the department of Sericulture, Shri Krishan Chander Government Degree College Poonch.Prof. Jasbir Singh, the College Principal  was the Chief Guest, while  Prof. Gurvinder Raj Verma, HOD, Sericulture was the guest of the honour on the occasion. 

 Prof. Dipanker Sen Gupta, Director - Jammu University, Poonch Campus and the Coordinator of the Workshop, inaugurated the workshop along with Chief Guest and other reputed academicians from University of Jammu and other educational institutions.

Prof. Seema Langer, Dean Life Sciences and Head Department of Zoology University of Jammu, besides Dr Arti Sharma, Dr Sarabjeet Kour, Dr Rakesh Panjalia from department of Zoology were special invitees at the inauguration ceremony, as they attended the event through online mode.

 In his address, Director Poonch Campus, thanked all the special invitees for their valuable lecturers. “I on behalf of Poonch Campus thanks all the guests, especially special invitees from University of Jammu and their valuable feedback regarding the Farm Mulberry Cultivation Practices.” 

He further said that such workshops/seminars are always helpful for not only the students but also for the faculty of the concerned department.   He said that Poonch Campus will continue to strive to become one of the premier intuitions of this region. 

“Department of Sericulture Poonch Campus is to be complemented for organising such seminars / workshops,'' he added.He further assured the participants that  the department of Sericulture will soon be shifted to newly constructed IT of Science and technology and all the facilities will be provided to it in coming times.

Prof. Seema Langer Dean Life Sciences and Head of Zoology University of Jammu in his address said that the students will learn each and everything about Sericulture.  She congratulated Poonch Campus for organising this workshop. 

As many as 115 participants, including UG and PG Scholars registered for the workshop  to get practical exposure on the various aspects of mulberry cultivation.Dr Suraksha Chanotra, Incharge Sericulture, Poonch Campus, Convener of the Workshop, in her address presented the welcome address.  

She also underlined the objectives of the workshop. She said that the seminar is being organised with prime objective to provide the participants the practical exposure on Mulberry Cultivation Practices.Dr. Chanotra also delivered an elaborative lecture on Mulberry cultivation and scope of sericulture.

Campus Officer and Lecturer department of Sericulture, Dr Rubia Bukhari, in her address said that this workshop will help to explore the possibilities to promote Sericulture in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. 

“This practical exposure will help the stakeholders to strengthen the potential bivoltine, sericulture industry,” she added.Dr. Rubia also delivered a lecture on Cultural operations in mulberry cultivation in the first session.

Dr. Muzafar Ahmad Bhat, Lecturer, Department of Sericulture gave an elaborative lecture on Introduction to sericulture. In the second session Ms. Kalpna Sudan, Teaching Assistant, Department of Sericulture JU and Ms. Sumya Kapoor, Teaching Assistant, Department of Sericulture delivered lectures on IPNM in mulberry cultivation and By-product utilization in mulberry cultivation.
