To generate awareness among the college students, a 3-day workshop on “Drug De-addiction and Special rights for women” began today in Government College for Women Udhampur. The event was organised by Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and NSS unit in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society and inaugurated by the College Principal Dr. Monika Sharma as the chief Guest.

The Principal of the College, in her address, advised the students that education was the only weapon especially for women to fight for their rights and eradicate drug menace from the society.Azra Parveen and Afia Nazir from Special Cell for Women and Children Udhampur and Devika Sharma, Drug Counselor, Police Drug-De-Addiction Centre District Police Line Udhampur were the resource persons in the workshop.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Convener RRC, Dr. Kewal Kumar briefed about the workshop and highlighted its importance in spreading awareness on women rights and drug scenario among the youths.In the morning session of the Workshop, Azra Parveen spoke about the gender inequality, gender based violence in both public and private life, how to empower women to access all types of support and justice, pre-& during litigation support to women & child survivors of violence and their families and the special rights of the women etc. 

The session was very interactive and a healthy discussion was held on preventing sexual assault on women and protection of women rights. She responded to the queries raised by the students in a very effective manner.

The evening session began with the screening of motivational movie- ‘PINK” related with the sexual assault on women. A counseling session conducted by the resource persons form Special Cell for Women was also conducted in the evening session. 

During the session, students shared and express their own personal problems regarding sexual harassment and were provided possible solutions to their problems by the resource persons. As many as 175 students of the college attended the workshop.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Seema Sharma, Associate Prof. of Music,   Kewal Kumar, Associate Prof. of Chemistry,  Ashni Devi, Associate Prof of Botany,  Parmjeet Singh, Assistant Prof. of Computer Science, Yash Paul, Assistant Professor of History, Tania Mahajan, Assistant Prof. of Zoology,  Roopa Kumari, Assistant Prof. of Education, Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music and  Yash Kumar, Assistant Prof. of Music.
