Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Marh, Rajeev Khajuria, today reviewed the preparations for ensuing week long Jhiri Mela, north India's second biggest mela after Pushkar mela of Rajasthan, which is going to be organised from 7th November this year.

Since the historic Jhiri mela which couldn't be organised for the last two years due to Covid restrictions, more than 10 lakh pilgrims from all over the country including that from abroad are expected to visit this time.

Preparations on the part of all departments including  R&B, PHE, PDD, I&FC, Police, Health, RDD, CAPD, Food Safety, Legal Metrology, Information, Tourism, Fire Services, Civil Defence etc. was reviewed threadbare.

The SDM, who is also Mela Officer, directed all departments to start taking necessary steps as per instructions conveyed by DC Jammu in a recent meeting & as per the past practices, to plug the gaps if any & put in their best efforts to ensure that the devotees do not face any inconvenience on any front. 

He laid special emphasis on sanitation, health & hygiene, security, food safety, provision of clean drinking water etc so that all visiting devotees/pilgrims can experience safe, secure & comfortable spiritual sojourn.

The SDM, along with the concerned officers, also visited the sites/locations in the area, where departmental stalls shall be installed, recreational facilities provided, parking spaces created, water points provided, living tents installed, shopping areas, bathing ghats etc & issued onspot instructions for departments to do the needful.

Important among those present on the occasion were SDPO Domana, Sunil Singh, Tehsildar & Naib Tehsildar Marh, BDO Marh, SHO Kanachak, AEE R&B, AEE PHE, AEE I&FC, HDO, EO Municipality Gho Manhasan, Food Safety Officer & officers from Health &  different other departments.
