Renowned novelist Nanak Singh Center inaugurated at GNDU

Display of rare books, manuscripts, literature, honors, pens/plates, serveral original drawings exhibited

Vice Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu inaugurated Nanak Singh Centre established by Nanak Singh Literary Foundation on the third floor of Bhai Gurdas Library of Guru Nanak Dev University here today, in the presence of family members of Nanak Singh and others literary personalities.    First editions of Nanak Singh's rare books, manuscripts, complete literature, various honors received by him, his pen and plate, all things related to his life, original illustrations by painter Sobha Singh as book covers, his pictures, life philosophy and his life line written on the big wall etc. have been preserved and displayed.

Scholarships, virtual center and memorial in Nanak Singh Niwas Preet Nagar were also announced on this occasion by the foundation. Navdeep Singh Suri, the grandson of Nanak Singh and Senior IFS officer, addressed the opening ceremony held in the Senate Hall before this inauguration.  Navdeep Singh Suri shared the objectives of the Nanak Singh Center and said that the aim of this Center is to preserve Nanak Singh's literary works and promote research so that all these treasures are available to students and researchers. Mani Suri introduced the outline of Nanak Singh Center through short film on this occasion.

The inaugural function was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu. In his presidential remarks, he said that Guru Nanak Dev University's pride has increased with the establishment of Nanak Singh Centre. 

He said that through this Centre the entire literary work of Nanak Singh and other things have been preserved and exhibited for the researcerhs, students and others.

Dr. Manjinder Singh, Head, School of Punjabi Studies of the University  conducted the proceedings of the ceremony. On this occasion, he compared Nanak Singh with Tolstoy and Munshi Prem Chand as literary personality. 

On this occasion, Nanak Singh's son, Kulbir Singh Suri, talking about his life experiences, considered Nanak Singh as a simplicity-oriented personality. S. Jitinder Brar, Vice-Chairman of Nanak Singh Literary Foundation, gave details about the creative initiatives of Nanak Singh. Nanak Singh's elder son Kanwaljit Singh Suri spoke about Nanak Singh's musical interest and presented a song from his composition Door Kinara. 

After this, singer Harinder Sohal performed the song Allah Hi Allah composed by Nanak Singh. Dr. Gurupdesh Singh, former Professor discussed Nanak Singh's works Khoon de Sohle, Khooni Baisakhi and Ag di Khel translated from Punjabi to English by Navdeep Singh Suri.Prof. Sarbjot Singh Behl, Dean Academic Affairs thanked all the scholars, teachers and students for participating in this event.
