To mark Gandhi Jayanti Celebration, a one day seminar on the Theme “Non- Violence as a weapon in freedom struggle of India” was today organized by Literary Club of Government College for Women(GCW) Udhampur in collaboration with Heritage Club and Department of Music here today at college campus.

The Principal of the host college Dr. Monika Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Monika Sharma applauded the students for coming to the forefront and taking part in such an event which makes us learn and practice the teachings of legends like Mahatma Gandhi.

She particularly mentioned humility as the tools to be used to lead a life which is instrumental for working in the service of humanity.Earlier, The Programme commenced with floral tribute by the chief guest and other dignitaries and students to Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi followed by an introductory note and welcome address by Associate Professor Dr. Mool Raj, Convener Literary club of the college. Subsequently, the students threw light on the life and contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in the enlightenment of Indian society from the grass root level.As many as 10 students of the college participated in the seminar and expressed their views on the said topic. 

A few of them also sung bhajan written by Mahatma Gandhi (which goes as Raghupati raghav raja ram…, Vaishnav Jan ko…………). The participants were given certificates of appreciation by the chief guest.The program was also graced by the performances of the few cultural items presented by the students from department of Music, GCW Udhampur under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. Seema Sharma and Assistant Prof. Yash Kumar. 

The proceedings of the programme conducted by Ritisha of Semester 1st besides Prof. Yash Paul Convener Heritage Club GCW Udhampur presented vote of thanks.Among others who graced the occasion by their presence were Prof. Kewal Kumar, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Arun Gupta, Prof. Rajinder Singh, Prof. Rekha Sharma, other senior faculty members and a large number of students.
