In continuation to series of programmes being organized to raise awareness on drug abuse under ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ in the district, an awareness programme was today organized by Block Medical Officer Pattan in collaboration with GDC Pattan and District Administration Baramulla at Government Degree College (GDC) Pattan.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar was the chief guest on the occasion.During the programme, different activities were carried out to make people aware with regard to Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

President MC Pattan, Pritpal Singh; Sub Divisional Magistrate Pattan, Syed Faheem Bihaqi; Block Medical Officer Pattan, Dr Mastoora; Principal GDC Pattan, Dr Tariq Ashai; Tehsildar Pattan, DIO Baramulla, and other Officers were also present in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that various programmes have been organized under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in a month long calendar of activities in which various stakeholders including youth of Baramulla and students of different schools have been involved to make district Baramulla drug free.

Dr Sehrish emphasized that success is a continuous process and one must not be afraid of failures. She said that youth are a significant part of the society and they should play to their strengths to accomplish any goal.

Emphasizing the need of these programmes, Dr Sehrish further said that awareness programmes and seminars that highlight drug abuse are of immense importance.She further said that District administration Baramulla has created 24*7 Helplines for counseling of youth of the district.

Addressing the students, the DC said that adolescents are very vulnerable to falling prey to drug addiction. She asserted that teachers and parents must be cautious and maintain vigil on their children's activities.

She further said that early intervention is critical in preventing the youth from becoming addicts adding that with firm determination of students and joint efforts by all stakeholders, this menace can be eradicated from the society.

Several other speakers shared their views regarding the harmful effects of drugs and highlighted that it is one's moral obligation as well his/ her duty to the society to help end this menace from the society.

Meanwhile, a pledge taking ceremony was also organized on the occasion to affirm that the menace of drug abuse will be eradicated.During the programme various cultural activities were organized to spread the message of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

Principal of the college, Prof Tariq Ashai, after formally welcoming the chief guest and the other dignitaries asserted that the Government is trying its utmost to eradicate the menace of drug addiction from the society.

Students of the college led by Subeena Javaid presented the college Tarana. Haseeba Mushtaq presented Ladisha (a Kashmiri cultural song). This was followed by a skit performance by students of the college namely Nadim (Sem III), Shahid (Sem I), Aasim (Sem III), Shugufta Hamid (Sem III), Rabiya Mushtaq (SemIII),  Sabeeqa Sajad (Sem III), Huzaif Nazir (Sem I) and Mubashir Shafi ( Sem I) which enthralled the audience. 

Sheikh Bintul Huda (Sem VI) presented her views through a PowerPoint presentation.Student performers were felicitated with the certificates of appreciation.Later, a student rally was taken out by NSS volunteers from the college to NH1.
