Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, an initiative to make Punjab once again shine at the international sports front, is witnessing enthusiastic participation of a large number of people from across various walks of life.In the area of sports minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, families are together participating in this watershed of sports and shall further be a part of the district level games as well.
One such family from Barnala is that of Kaur Singh, whose three generations are participating in this event. Ex serviceman Kaur Singh himself, his son and daughter in law and two Granddaughters are participating in various categories. Kaur Singh is an athlete in 70 plus category and has participated in many national events. After competing in block level games, he will be part of district level games in hammer throw.
Kaur Singh's son Jaswant Singh (Jassi) is national level badminton player and he shall be participating in district level competitions. Jaswant Singh is an established coach of badminton as well as a Computer teacher. The entire family is participating in badminton. National Player Jaswant Singh and his wife Harjinder Kaur are participating in 40 plus, while his daughters Khushdeep Kaur and Bawanjot Kaur are participating in under 14 categorie.
Appreciating the efforts of Kaur Singh, the sports Minister Mr Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that this family is an inspiration for all others to follow. He said that the overwhelming response to 'Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan' is a huge positive step towards creating 'Rangla Punjab, Khelda Punjab'.Deputy Commisioner Dr. Harish Nayer also conveyed the good wishes to the Kaur Singh's family.
Due to knee problem switched to javelin throw and hammer throw
Veteran Athlete Kaur Singh said that he used to participate in triple jump earlier, but after a road accident a few years ago, he got a problem in his knee, but he did not give up the sports. He switched to javelin throw and hammer throw. He is participating in national games for about 15 years.
