Punjab Freedom Fighter, Defense Services Welfare and Food Processing and Horticulture minister Fauja Singh Sarari, on Tuesday, instructed the horticulture department officials to encourage the farmers to adopt horticulture as an alternative of traditional wheat-paddy crop cycle. 

The minister said that horticulture will boost the income of farmers, besides making the environment green and save depleting ground water on large scale.  He said that to encourage the farmers for horticulture, farmers' meetings should be organised on regular basis in they should be made aware of various fruit plants, diseases in the orchards and their prevention methods. 

Cabinet Minister Fauja Singh Sarari was here at Sangrur to review the ongoing activities in the horticulture department in the district.  During his visit, the cabinet minister also inspected the horticulture department's district office and the department's orchard and nursery and Krishi Vigyan Kendra located at nearby village Kheri.  

Earlier, a team of the district police also saluted him at the local rest house of the Public Works Department on his first arrival in Sangrur as a cabinet minister.Cabinet Minister Fauja Singh Sarari said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan has continuously been taking initiatives for the holistic development of the state.  

S.  Sarari said that their government’s main purpose was to bring the necessary reforms in the horticulture department and bring it on the right track, under which Sangrur district has been visited today. He added that by reviewing the shortcomings, the activities of the department will be made more effective in the future and be implemented properly. 

He instructed the staff at nursery that special care should be taken to prevent diseases and weeds while preparing saplings in the nursery so that only healthy saplings can be given to the farmers. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, senior leader Gurmail Singh Gharachon, SDM Navreet Kaur Sekhon, SP Manpreet Singh, Deputy Director Horticulture Dr. Nirwant Singh, Assistant Deputy Director Dr. Hardeep Singh, Horticulture Development Officer Dr. Amanpreet Kaur, Horticulture Development Officer.  Dr. Baljit Kumar, Horticulture Development Officer Dr. Prahlad Singh and other officers and employees were present.
