National Sports Day celebrated in all School across the J&K. Project Director Samagra Shiksha, J&K, Er. Deep Raj Kanethia has already issued circular instructions wherein all the CEOs were directed to observe National sports day in all the schools. Project Director SamagraShiksha stated that "Physical Education develops the WHOLE child in EVERY child"

The Department of School Education and Samagra Shiksha, J&K under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha has been promoting sports as envisaged in Fit India Movement.

Keeping in view the goals of New Education Policy 2020 which lays emphasis on Sports integration as cross curricular approach that utilizes physical activities including indigenous sports, in pedagogical practices to help in developing skills such as Collaboration, Self-initiative, self-direction, self-discipline, teamwork, responsibility and citizenship. Sports integrated learning will be undertaken in classroom transactions to help students adopt fitness as lifelong attitude.

In financial year 2021-22, Directorate of Samagra Shiksha J&K has provided funds under Sports and Physical Education Component for procurement of age-appropriate Sports equipment to all the 20 districts.  This initiative is benefiting around 22,250 Government elementary and secondary and senior secondary schools across J&K (UT).

100 schools have been chosen on pilot basis for upgradation of Sports Infrastructure for which Rs. 20 Crores has been made available. Plan to develop Sports infra for at least 02 Games in each High and Higher Secondary school has been conceived and in 2022-23, Sports equipment shall be provided to all the Government schools of J&K (UT).
