To sensitise people about the ‘National Senior Citizens Day',  the Social Welfare Department,  in collaboration with  District Administration,    Directorate of Ayush and Elderline J&K today organised Yoga, Health screening and Medical aid camp for elderly persons here at Jagriti Oldage Home.

Around 150 persons including members of Bhartiya yog sansthan, senior citizens and civil society members of district Udhampur, staff of District Social Welfare, Tehsil Social Welfare Office, District Ayush Office participated in the event with full zeal.

At the outset, the participants took part in a yoga practicing session under the guidance of the Coach of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan J&K.Thereafter Kanika Gupta, District Social Welfare Officer, briefed the audience about the importance of National Senior Citizens Day and stressed upon why such days should be celebrated.

Meanwhile, Shafiq Hussain, Field Response leader J&K educated the participants about the services provided by  Elderline to elderly persons in terms of medical and legal aid, social welfare, police assistance etc. He said that elderly persons facing  any issue can call on 14567 toll free number of Elderline to seek different services.  

Dr Uttam Gupta and Dr. Varnika along with team of Ayush distributed kits of Ayurvedic medicines and conducted medical checkup of all the participants including BP and sugar monitoring.DSWO, Kanika Gupta, along with her team presented yoga mats and medical kits to the participants. 

She also handed over walking sticks, wheelchair and glucometer to management of Jagriti Oldage Home.The program concluded with plantation of medicinal plants in the premises of Jagriti Oldage Home. Plant saplings were also distributed to the participants with the pledge that they will take good care of it.
