Despite wet weather and incessant rains, the 76th Independence Day was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety across Jammu Division. Apart from the official functions, market organizations, Mohalla Committees, social organizations and Welfare organizations hoisted National Flag in their areas to express their love for the country and pay homage to the Freedom fighters and martyrs of Army, paramilitary forces and police, who laid down their lives while protecting the Nation on frontiers and fighting terrorists.
Braving inclement Weather amid heavy downpour, People from all walks of life, including women and children, dressed in colourful attires, thronged the function venues to celebrate the National Festival. People distributed sweets and exchanged greetings amid festivity.
At Rajouri: The 76th Independence Day was observed across the Rajouri district with great fervour and national spirit.The celebrations were held at district headquarters, all additional districts, sub-divisions and tehsil headquarters and at Panchayats.
The main function was organized at District Police Lines Grounds where the chief guest, District Development Council Chairman, Naseem Liyaqat unfurled the National Flag and inspected the Parade. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri,Vikas Kundal and other officers of district administration were present on the occasion.
In all, 22 contingents of JKAP, JK Executive Police, JK police band, CRPF, JK FPF and SPOs, besides student platoons of different schools presented an impressive parade, led by DySP Parupkar Singh.

Thousands of people thronged the venue to witness the grand celebrations of the national event.The zeal of the students and the contingents was worth seeing who gave their best performance braving incessant rains, which were highly liked and appreciated by the public with repeated applause.
In his address, the DDC Chairman expressed warm greetings to the Rajouri public and highlighted the significance of the day. “The day stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters to get independence from British rule” he said.
The DDC Chairman added that ‘it is the most significant day in the history of India as on this day the sun of independence dawned on the horizon of our motherland, and the National government came into power after a prolonged struggle and we became an Independent and sovereign nation.’
The DDC Chairman said that India is competing with other developed nations and has proved mettle in Education-Agriculture-Science and Technology, Energy space Technology, Health and other sectors. He further said that every Indian was proud to be the citizen of a great democratic nation where everyone is equal before the law.
Meanwhile, he listed the achievements made in the district on development, economic and social levels. “The Government is working sincerely to provide the public better road infrastructure, healthcare facilities, quality education; road connectivity, electricity and water supply to left out villages besides ensuring social security to aged, physically challenged and widows; and create self-employment avenues for unemployed youth in the district” he added.
Highlighting unprecedented feats achieved in revolutionizing the Education sector, he said the new education policy aims at making school and higher education more job-oriented and fruitful.
Access to quality education for all has been flagged as priority by opening new and upgrading the existing schools, besides opening Degree Colleges at block levels” he said and added 46198 Pahari speaking and 36000 ST students have been provided scholarships in Rajouri district alone towards universalisation of Education.
"An expenditure of Rs 468 crore has been incurred last year and a plan amounting to Rs 2342 Crores has been approved this year to fast pace developmental process in the district", the DDC Chairman informed.
While speaking about Prime Minister Awas Yojana scheme, he informed that 17000 houses have been completed at the cost of Rs 221 crore in the district, while this year the target has been set to construct more 21000 houses. Similarly 5819 works have been completed at a cost of Rs 116 crore under MGNREGA to provide work to rural populace and create assets in the rural areas.
The DDC chairman also mention about the Government Medical College being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 139 crore and construction of 659 KM road and blacktopping of 190 km to provide dependable road connectivity to the people. He also said 18 roads have been completed in the district under NABARD Loan project.”To boost the agriculture sector and double the farmers' income, as many as 90683 cases have been sanctioned under the PM KiSAN scheme” , he added.
"The indoor stadium at Koteranka completed at an Rs 04 crore, double lanning of Abdullah Bridge, construction of BGSBU road, 222 projects of different sectors approved under the Languishing scheme, establishment of 2012 Self Help Groups under NRLM comprising 5015 individuals, approval of Jal Jeevan Mission 293 projects costing Rs 1942 crore, 11000 new cases of pension under different social security schemes, sanctioning of 11000 new pension cases under different social security schemes are among many other achievements recorded in the district” the DDC informed.
Later, the DDC chairman felicitated the winners of District Level National Anthem and Students with outstanding academic and sports records were also felicitated. At Kathua: The 76th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm, patriotic zeal and national fervor at Kathua
The main function was held at Sports Stadium, Kathua where DDC Chairman Col Retd Mahan Singh hoisted the National flag and took salute from mega parade comprising of 39 contingents drawn from CRPF, District Police, Police Training School, IRP, Home Guards, NCC boys and Girls, Bands and tiny platoons from various Government and Private schools.
In his address, the DDC Chairman recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle to win independence for their countrymen. He said the country is celebrating 75 years of independence and ‘we are lucky to witness this once in a lifetime kind of milestone.’
While paying tribute to the brave soldiers of Army, Police and Para Military forces, the DDC Chairman said our soldiers are guarding our borders, withstanding adverse and hostile weather conditions to protect and safeguards the mother India.
The DDC Chairperson said India is an emerging power having a fast growing economy which is now making its mark in every sector. He said India is marching ahead with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India self-reliant by inducing the new spirit of National Integration among the countrymen to attain new heights.
Highlighting the developmental initiatives undertaken in the District, the DDC chairman said Delhi-Katra 6 Lane Expressway, International Sports Stadium, Shahpur Kandi project, Biotech Park, etc. when completed will catapult the development profile of Kathua district.
Hailing the successful implementation of three-tier Panchayati Raj System in J&K, the DDC said these grassroots level institutions have been instrumental in setting in the exponential trajectory of growth and development in the UT.
Highlighting the development scenario of Kathua, the DDC Chairman said our district is making great strides on every front. “The outlay under district capex budget has been increased three fold in comparison to last financial year which shows the seriousness of the government towards holistic development of the society” the DDC Chairman added.
Underscoring the importance of recently taken initiatives viz Amrit Sarovar, Seema Samridhi Yojana besides ramping up roads, school, medical healthcare, tourism infrastructure etc, the DDC Chairman lauded the efforts of district administration who is toiling hard and working in close coordination with PRIs to realize the objective of sustainable and all round development.

At Doda: The Independence Day 2022, marking completion of 75 years of Free India, was today celebrated with national fervor, enthusiasm and gaiety at Sports Stadium Doda, where the Chairman District Development Council, Dhananter Singh Kotwal hoisted the Tricolor.
He inspected the parade, took salute from the March past comprising contingents drawn from the JK Police, IR 5th Bn, CRPF 76Bn, FPF, Home Guard, NCC, NSS, Sports Council and children from different schools.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman DDC underlined the need for maintaining sustained peace and tranquility to realize the cherished goals of growth and development in the district.
Paying rich homage to the heroes of Indian freedom movement, the Chairman said the hard earned independence can only be preserved by maintaining peace, tranquility and harmony.
He also paid respectful homage and salute to the brave hearts of the JK Police, Paramilitary and the Army who made their supreme sacrifices to guard the territorial integrity of the country.
The Chairman further highlighted the importance of the this year’s Independence and said today India completed 75 years of Independence and like other parts of the nation, UT of Jammu & Kashmir, district Doda celebrated the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and Har Ghar Tiranga campaign with patriotic zeal, respect, dignity and enthusiasm.
The Chairman also highlighted extraordinary achievements of the district and said that the work on the ambitious project of GMC Doda has reached near completion and assured every possible and additional support from UT Govt for its proper functioning.
“Completion of 100 bedded hospital at Gandoh, ANM school at Bhaderwah, completion of 60% work on High Altitude Medicinal Plant at Bhaderwah, start of construction work of Polytechnic College Doda, Govt Degree College Kastigarh has been completed during the current year, 90% achievement under District capex, providing Self-employment benefits to 4397 youth including handing over of load carriers to 95 male youth under Mumkin and benefits of Tesjsawani scheme to 30 girls, starting construction of NH 244 which is going to be a big milestone in terms of safe travelling are among many milestones achieved in the District” he added.
He also mentioned about effective implementation of different schemes by District Administration, setting up of a 24*7 control room to address public grievances, installation of Complaint Boxes in all government offices for timely filing of grievances and quality execution of all developmental works.
“The Council and district administration are keeping strict vigil on all works by conducting on the spot inspections and issuance of strictures for timeline completion of works,” he added.
“:Under Social Security sector including PMJJY, PMJSY, APY people from all walks of life have shown interest and till now 90959 have been enrolled under these schemes, besides around 70 percent of the eligible/targeted population has been registered under Ayushmaan Bharat scheme,” he added.
Referring to the Agriculture sector, the Chairman said that around 70-80 percent people are directly or indirectly connected with farming and till now 71118 farmers have availed the KCC and PM Kissan schemes, while huge number of farmers were adding to their income through Lavender cultivation being promoted by the department of Floriculture under Purple Revolution.
”The total area under Lavender cultivation in the district has reached 2000 Kanal with the involvement of 1200 farmers and many more are following the suite seeing huge returns ” the DDC Chairman said.
The RDD has achieved a great feat by completing 10328 PMAY houses against the target of 12140, while against 18387 approved works 17290 have been completed under MGNREGA sector during the year 2021-22, he informed further.

The Independence Day function was also held in Bhaderwah, where President MC Shahid Rehman Mughal hoisted the national flag and inspected the Parade.Similar functions were also held at all Sub Divisional, Tehsil/ Block levels headquarters and all the panchayats across the District where BDC Chairpersons, SDMs, Tehsildars and elected PRIs hoisted the National Flag and took salute of the March past contingents.
At Ramban: Chairperson District Development Council Ramban, Dr. Shamshad Shan hoisted the National Flag and inspected the Parade at the main function of the 76th Independence Day held in the District Police Lines.
The Chairperson took salute from the March Past consisting of contingents of JK Police, IRP, Home Guards, school contingents and Military Band. Among others, Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam, President MC Ramban, Sunita Kumari, Councilors of DDC Ramban and MC Ramban , besides SSP, Mohita Sharma, SSP Traffic, Shabir Malik, ADDC Rajinder Sharma and other civil, police and officers of Armed forces, prominent citizens attended the function.
The Chairperson congratulated the people of Ramban for celebrating 75 years of the Nation's Independence as “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” besides paying tribute to the freedom fighters for their sacrifices and contribution in the independence struggle.
After greeting the people, the DDC Chairperson gave a brief account of the main developmental projects completed in the district during the previous year and sanctioned projects for the current year.
Dr. Shamshad Shan appreciated the District Administration Ramban for making elaborate security, boarding, lodging, and other necessary arrangements for devotees during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, 2022.
She said that a total of 1984 developmental projects have been sanctioned under the Rural Development sector in the district out of which 1955 projects have been completed at a cost of Rs. 2946.54 Lakh. “Under PMAY-G and AWAS Plus 13387 have been completed and work on 8187 houses is in progress at an expenditure of Rs. 299.86 Lakh, 88 water supply schemes costing Rs. 419 crore have been sanctioned under Jal Jeevan Mission to provide potable water through tap to 26409 households in the district, 15 Mini Hydro Electric Power Projects have been sanctioned under JAKEDA and execution on the same will be started soon, a Yatri Niwas with a boarding and lodging capacity of 3600 with modern facilities have been constructed at Chanderkote” the Chairperson said.
Chairperson also listed the achievements made by the different departments under different schemes like PM-KISAN, NSAP, State Marriage Assistance, Pre-Matric- Post Matric Scholarship, POSHAN ABHIYAN.
She also urged the people especially the youth to avail benefit from beneficiary-oriented schemes including Mumkin, Tejaswini, NRLM, and BBBP besides AYUSHMAN BHARAT- SEHAT scheme.She said that several schemes have been launched in the district, especially for the overall development of youth, children, women and other weaker sections of society.
Later, several employees, sports persons, students, social organizations and participants were felicitated by the District Administration for outstanding performances in their respective fields.
Meanwhile, the President, MC Ramban, Sunita Sumbria hoisted Tricolor in the MC office while all the BDC Chairpersons hoisted Tricolor in their respective block headquarters. Independence Day was also celebrated with patriotic fervour in Gool, Banihal and Ramsoo Sub-divisions besides Tehsil headquarters across the district.Later, the Chairperson also flagged off an ambulance provided by Councillor Renuka Katoch out of her Area Development Funds to Civil QRT Ramban.
At Reasi: The 76th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervor in district Reasi.The main function was held in the General Zorawar Singh Sports stadium Reasi, where District Development Council Chairman, Saraf Singh hoisted the National flag at 08:55 AM and took salute at an impressive parade of 18 contingents drawn from J&K Police, SKPA, Volunteers Home Guards, NCC and Civil Scots besides Police Band, took part in this national function.
Deputy Commissioner, Babila Rakwal, Sr. Superintendent of Police Reasi Amit Gupta, ADDC Jyoti Salathia, besides other officers of District Administration, Police, CRPF, BSF and Army and elected representatives and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
Extending heartiest greetings to all the prominent citizens, officers & the people on the auspicious day, the DDC Chairperson recalled sacrifices made by the national leaders to gain freedom from colonial rule after a prolonged struggle.
He said post Independence, the country has come a long way and is fast progressing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narinder Modi.“Present Government under the able guidance of Lieutenant Governor is leading Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory on the glorious path of development and prosperity by making earnest efforts to provide all basic facilities such as electricity, water, health, employment, roads etc to the people of Union Territory and District Reasi is also reaping benefits like any other districts of the country” he said.
The Chief Guest hailed the UT Administration as well as District Administration for taking several initiatives for the benefit of the general public and effective delivery of services in different sectors of the District Reasi.
“I am very glad as with public cooperation, participation and efforts of my district team, Reasi District is doing well in implementation of all beneficiary oriented Government Schemes like BBBP, Ujwala Yojana, PM-Kissan, Khelo India, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Pension Schemes (NSAP,ISSS) etc” he added.
Hailing people friendly initiatives, he said District Police Reasi is earnestly working in-coordination with the civil administration to provide best services. “Women Help Desks have been established in the Police stations of district Reasi to address their issues more effectively, Public meetings are being organized at police station level for the redressal of grievances of general public, District Police Reasi has also organized a number of Programmes under Civil action programmes involving youth of the District themed “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” he said.
Similar Independence Day functions were also organized at Tehsil, Sub Divisional level.Later, at home was organized at Auditorium, DC Complex, Reasi where a cultural performance was arranged by the District Administration.Local artists presented cultural performances which mesmerized the audiences on the occasion.
At Kishtwar: The 76th Independence Day was celebrated across the district Kishtwar including tehsil and block headquarters and in all government and private Educational institutions with great enthusiasm, fervor and national spirit.
The main function was held at Historic Chowgan Ground wherein the people from all walks of life participated.Chairperson, District Development Council, Pooja Thakur, who was the Chief Guest, hoisted the tricolor, inspected the parade and took salute from the March past comprising contingents drawn from District police, CRPF, CISF, IRP, Home guards, Forest Protection Force, NCC wing (Boys and Girls) GDC and GHSS , besides Students of Government and Private schools.

She listed the extraordinary achievements made in the developmental sector in the district which includes the works taken up under the PMGSY, PMDP, Jal Jiwan Mission, PMAY, Ayushman Bharat sehat etc in the district.
Against the target of 1185.14 KM, blacktopping on 855.42 KM has been completed which includes the roads to Margan Top, Warwan and Marwah areas while the completion of motorable road to Sounder Dachhan is a historical achievement in the sector, she lauded.
She also mentioned about coverage of 68 percent population under PM-Jan Arogya Yojna, construction of 4647 houses under PMAY (G) 145 houses under PMAY (U); sanctioning of 11 iconic projects at a cost of Rs 108.32 crore and completion of 4 projects including B.SC Nursing College Kishtwar and TFC Gulab Garh Paddar, coverage of 29301 houses with tap water facility and approval of 129 schemes under Jal Jivan Mission; taking up of 2500 works under District Capex Budget and completion of 415 works till date; 10588 works under MGNREGA including construction of Soakage pits and compost pit for each household and Amrit Sarovar in each Panchayat.
The DDC chairperson lauded the efforts of govt of J&K in launching the online services and online portals like "Janbhagidari" portal and "Apni Zameen Apne Nigrani" and "Land PassBook" initiative in UT , which has contributed towards effective and efficient public service delivery for the ease of people.“Now people can have one-click access to land records and physical and financial status of developmental Works of their areas,'' she mentioned.
She also highlighted the achievements under PM-POSHAN, B2V3, Social Security Schemes, e-Shram, Self Employment Schemes, Agriculture and allied sectors, PM Matru Vandana Yojna, Biometric attendance mechanism and urged for the cooperation of the people of Kishtwar in the effective implementation of these schemes.
DCC chairperson appreciated the efforts of the District administration particularly the frontline workers from Police, Army, Health, Education & civil administration in effective management and containment of Drugs Menace and appealed the parents, students, religious and Social organizations to play a proactive role in the eradication of the social evil from the society.
She congratulated people of Kishtwar and District Administration Kishtwar for making the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign and "online National Anthem singing" competition a grand success in the District.

At Samba: The 76th Independence Day was celebrated in district samba amidst fervour, gaiety and valour. The national function saw a huge participation of the general public across the ages.Chairman District Development Councils, Samba, Keshav Dutt Sharma hoisted the National Tri-colour at an impressively decorated Rani Suchait Singh Stadium.
Vice Chairman DDC Balwan Singh, District Development Commissioner, Anuradha Gupta, other DDC members, Senior Superintendent of Police, besides other District Officers and prominent personalities were also present.
In his address, the Chairman District Development Council paid tributes to the freedom fighters for their contribution for attaining Independence from foreign rule. He said the nation of present times is indebted to the sacrifices of our freedom struggle heroes including Mangal Pandaey, Rani Jhansi, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bhagat Singh, father of Nation M.K Gandhi besides others.
The District Development Council Chairman said that district samba has seen an exponential growth with the implementation of schemes under PMGSY, PMUY, Ayushman Bharat, SBM(G), 100% achievement in pension schemes, 100% piped water connections to schools and AWCs, 100% covid vaccination of above 18+.
He also highlighted the achievements under MGNREGA, IWMP, ICDS, Aspirational blocks, Digital initiatives in governance, Back to Village programme, Sacsham, Mumkin, Youth Mission, besides others.
Giving details on the upcoming projects in the district, the Chairman District Development Council said “Our district is fast emerging as a medical hub with advent of AIIMS Vijaypur, proposed Medicity Hospitals, while promotion of Tourism in Purmandal-Utterbeni circuit, construction of 5 new degree colleges and other major initiatives are also worth mentioning.”
The Chairman DDC also mentioned the recently conducted National Panchayat Day at Palli Panchayat where the PM addressed the country on 24th April this year. 'Under the visionary leadership of PM of India, District samba has achieved 100% target in Amrit Sarovar, the rejuvenation of ponds, and the water conservation mission' said the DDC Chairman.
He also showered praises on the security forces including Army, CRPF, BSF & JK Police for rendering services throughout the year round the clock.The march past parade consisted of contingents of JK Police ITBP, IRP, Home Guards, NCC squads led by Commandant Parade DySP G R Bhardhwaj, and Dy. Parade commandant S.I Sohan Singh.
A variety cultural show was presented by the students of GHSS Samba, Govt Degree College samba, HSS Gho Brahmana, Rich Harvest School, besides others. Additional Deputy Commissioner Suram Chand Sharma, District Social Welfare Officer, Deep Kumar, District Information Officer, Ajay Sharma, besides officers from health department, PWD, Rural development, JK Police, Civil Defense, Revenue department, Youth services and Sports and others were also felicitated.
Mementos were distributed among the war veterans and families of Martyrs' by district administration samba.Awards were also given to NGOs, Journalists, persons related to art and culture, Ex-serviceman and persons with distinguished services.
The I-Day function also saw felicitation of winners of National Anthem Singing competitions and Art and Culture competitions held across the district to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Sarovar.Later, at the Home function, a patriotic cultural programme was held at the District Administrative Complex, Samba.

At Udhampur: The 76th Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervor across district Udhampur.The main function was held in the premises of Government PG College, Boys Udhampur, wherein District Development Council Chairperson, Udhampur Lal Chand was the chief guest, who hoisted the National flag at 9:55 AM and took salute from an impressive parade of 28 contingents drawn from J&K Police, SKPA, Volunteers Home Guards, NCC and Civil Scots besides Police Band, took part in this national function.

He said in the post Independence era, the country has come a long way and is progressing at great pace under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Udhampur District is also reaping fruits of development as a number of major development projects like Devika Project, National Highway (NH-44, NH-244) project, Digital Land Management Programme, Yoga International Convention Centre Mantalai, Medical College and Degree Colleges at Udhampur, Jal Jeevan Mission are bound to change the developmental profile of the District” he said,
He also mentioned about Solid Waste Management Project at Mand Udhampur and hailed District Hospital Udhampur for bagging State Level Certification under LaQshya on 6th June 2022 which ensures the quality services in Labour Room and Maternity Operation Theatre (OT; KAYAKALP award for district Udhampur for the assessment year 2021-22 by Lieutenant Governor, coverage of 95087 families under Ayushman Bharat issuance of 3,85,000 Golden Cards.
At Ramnagar, the Independence Day function was held in the premises of Government Model Higher Secondary School, wherein MC President, Banti Devi unfurled Tricolour.Similarly, the Independence Day function was also organized at Tehsil and Sub Divisional levels.
Later, at home was hosted by the District Administration at Riwayat Banquet Hall where a cultural performance was organised by the Information Department and the District Administration.
At Poonch: The 76th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm, fervor and national spirit here at Sports Stadium.The Chief Guest, Chairperson District Development Council Poonch, Tazeem Akhter hoisted the tricolor and took salute at the march Past. Guard of honour was presented by JK Police which was followed by an impressive Parade by the contingents of JKP, CRPF, JKAP, NCC, J&K Home Guards, J&K Police QRT Commando, J&K Police Band and various Government and Private Schools.
Vice Chairperson DDC Poonch, Ashfaq Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, InderJeet, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohit Baskotra, DDC member Loran, Riaz Bashir Naz, ADDC Abdul Sattar, ADC Dr Basharat Hussain, , besides other officers from Civil, Police, Judiciary, Ex Legislators, prominent citizens, social workers, political activists attended the function. A Large number of men, women and children were present on the occasion.
In her address, the Chief Guest congratulated the people of Poonch for the 76th Independence Day. She highlighted the sacrifices of the brave freedom fighters in achieving Independence.”It is the most significant day in the history of India” she added. She further stressed the people of Poonch to work together for promoting national integration, communal harmony and peace in the district.
She also highlighted the success of "HarGharTiranga" Campaign under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.During her speech, she counted numerous developmental projects and works undertaken in the district.
The Celebrations was marked by a cultural programme based on the theme of nationalism and integrity presented by the students of degree College/Schools and other Cultural groups of the district.
The programme culminated with the distribution of prizes among the participants. The winners of National Anthem Singing Competition-2022 which was organised by Government of UT of Jammu and Kashmir were also felicitated.
Cash prizes were also given to Winners and Runner Ups in Singing, Essay Writing and Debate competition organized by JKAACL.Trophies and mementos were presented to the participants of Parade and cultural activities.
Certificates of Appreciation were presented to SDH Mendhar for its outstanding work during the COVID-19 and Momentos were also presented to the participants.Earlier, Deputy Commissioner hoisted the flag at DC Office Poonch.
Independence Day was celebrated across all the Government Offices, Degree Colleges, Govt ITIs & Polytechnic Colleges, Schools and at Block and Panchayat Levels, where the concerned BDC Chairpersons/Sarpanches hoisted the National Flag.As a part of the ceremony, ‘At Home’ function was also organized by the Deputy Commissioner Poonch at Government Degree College.
