Principal Secretary Irrigation and Flood Control Department and Jal Shakti, Ashok Kumar Parmar conducted a whirlwind tour of various water supply schemes in the outskirts of Jammu city today. He was accompanied by District Development Council Chairman Jammu, Bharat Bhushan.

The day’s tour included visits to water supply schemes at Kot, Karwanda, Ranjan Canal, Gurha Pattan and Malpur villages.At Kot-I pumping station, the Principal Secretary was briefed by the DDC of its malfunctions, erratic pumping facilities and the need to augment the station. 

The latter assured that swift necessary action would be taken up and the functioning of the station restored under funds from NABARD and CAPEX.  He was also apprised of the need to conduct a fresh survey at Karwanda for identifying the site and source of groundwater.

At the site of Sub Division Bhalwal, the Principal Secretary was apprised of erratic power supply to the station. He underlined that the station needs a reliable source of power to ensure that the tens of villages dependent on the station do not lack water supply. He also took note of the water supply issue of Nala Mohalla.

The DDC also suggested that the pumping stations need dedicated power supply to ensure uninterrupted supply of water.At Lift Irrigation Scheme Ranjan, the Principal Secretary inspected the working of the pumping motors. 

He listened to the issues pertaining to the station presented by PRI members and other members of the public at the spot. The officers assured the Principal Secretary that all pending issues of the station would be addressed within a month and continuous supply of water would be ensured.

Pertinently, the Principal Secretary visited the site to take feedback over the developments made since his visit from last month.He also inspected Tube Well at Chak Singa, 2nd Tube Well Ranjan and another one in village Jandial. 

He expressed dismay at the poor upkeep of some of the tube wells and directed officers for their routine cleaning, bleaching and conducting necessary repairs.The Principal Secretary later met a delegation of locals and PRI members at village Malpur. He spoke with the public and their representatives at length and addressed major issues pertaining to irrigation water supply. 

Memorandums regarding installation of fresh hand-pumps, repair of the existing hand-pumps and irrigation canals were also received by the Principal Secretary. He instructed Officers to be responsive for redressal of Public Grievances regarding inadequate supply of water for drinking and irrigation purpose.Chief Engineer I&FC Jammu, Er Hamesh Manchanda among other senior officers accompanied the Principal Secretary during the visits.
