To mark the celebration of 73rd Van Mahotsava, a plantation drive was organized today by the J&K Social Forestry Department and 67th Battalion of BSF, here at BOP–Chandwan in Hiranagar sector.The Chairman District Development Council Kathua, Col (Rtd) Mahan Singh, was the chief guest and Deputy Commissioner , Rahul Pandey was the Guest of Honour.

After the ceremonial planting of Chinar Trees by the guests, dozens of species of Ornamental, Shade bearing and medicinal plants were planted in the premises of the Border post at Chandawan-Tehsil Hiranagar.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC Chairperson appreciated the role of Social Forestry in increasing the Green cover of the Union territory.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need to conduct more such Plantation drives to save the mother earth from weather related catastrophes and for a clean and healthy environment.Others who participated in the Plantation drive included SSP Kathua  R.C Kotwal,  2iC, 67 BN BSF, Mohit Pundir, DDC Marheen Karan Attri,DFO Social Forestry Kathua Munish Bhardwaj, SDM Hiranagar, Rakesh Sharma, Range Officer Social Forestry Hiranagar , Sarpanches of various adjoining Panchayats, Officers and officials of the Social Forestry Department and 67 Bn BSF.
