No death due to malaria in the state since 2016 : Anil Vij

Haryana Health and Family Welfare Minister, Sh. Anil Vij said that seven districts of the state have achieved 'Zero Indigenous Case Status' during the year 2021 towards malaria elimination. He said that since 2016, no death due to malaria in the state. 

Apart from this, Sh. Vij said that fogging would be done in urban and rural areas of the state for the prevention of vector-borne diseases and dedicated wards and beds would also be kept in Govt. hospitals for malaria and dengue patients in the state.

Sh. Vij was presiding over a review meeting regarding National Vectorborne Disease Control Program, Haryana, here today. Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Sh. Rajiv Arora was present in the meeting.

He said that various steps have been taken to eliminate malaria from Haryana under which seven districts namely Ambala, Bhiwani, Jind, Kaithal, Rohtak, Karnal, Kurukshetra have achieved 'Zero Indigenous Case Status' during the year 2021. 

Apart from this, Kaithal district has achieved 'Zero Indigenous Case Status' for three consecutive years from the year 2019 and 'Zero Indigenous Case Status' for Ambala and Jind for the last two years.

*331 primary health centers of the state achieved 'Zero Indigenous Case Status'

During the meeting, the Minister was apprised that 331 Primary Health Centers of the State have also achieved 'Zero Indigenous Case Status' during the year 2021. In addition, no person has died of malaria since 2016.

It was informed in the meeting that till July 8 this year only five cases of malaria have been reported whereas till July 8 last year there were 10 malaria cases i.e. malaria outbreak is going down. 

During the meeting, four vector-borne diseases namely Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunya, Japanese Japanese enplities  have been notified by March 31, 2024 and all public/private hospitals and laboratories will have to inform the state.

*Central government praised the malaria-free Mewat campaign*

During the meeting, Sh. Vij was apprised that the malaria-free Mewat campaign was started on 4th September, 2019. After this, on April 1, 2021, its second campaign was started, under which mass screening was done.

It was informed in the meeting that under the first campaign 1.34 lakh people were screened in high risk areas like Ujina, Sudaka, Bai and Nuh in which 252 positive cases of malaria were found. 

Similarly, during the second campaign, 71 thousand people were screened in Ujina, Sudaka and Bai, in which no case of malaria was detected. This campaign has also been praised by the Central Government. 

It was informed in the meeting that in the year 2019-2020, about 4.86 lakh insecticidal bed nets were distributed in high risk villages to control mosquito bites and their spread.

*27 Dengue testing labs operated in the state, government apheresis facility of single donor platelets available in five districts*

Similarly, during the meeting, it was informed regarding Dengue disease that there are 27 Dengue testing labs operating in the state, under which one lab has been set up in each district. 

Apart from this, private hospitals and labs have been restricted to charge a maximum of Rs 600 for dengue test. It was also informed in the meeting that there is a provision to provide free single donor platelets to Dengue patients admitted in Govt. hospitals of the state, under which single donor platelets were provided free of cost to 131 Dengue patients. 

It was also informed in the meeting that if single donor platelets are arranged from private hospitals for Dengue and Chikungulia patients admitted to Government hospitals during emergency, the government reimburses Rs.11 thousand. 

It was also informed in the meeting that government apheresis facility of single donor platelets is available in five districts of the state namely Panchkula, Gurugram, Rohtak, Karnal and Sonipat which have been mapped with all the districts.

*Gambusia fishes released in 7169 ponds of the state*

It was also informed in the meeting that the activities like testing of fever, generation of mosquito larva, etc. are being carried out by door-to-door teams. Apart from this, there are 112 fish hatcheries operating in the state to eliminate the larva, under which gambusia fish have been released in 7169 ponds which eat the larva.

In the meeting, the Annual Report 2021 of National Vectorborne Disease Control Program, Haryana was also released by the Health Minister Sh. Anil Vij.

Haryana National Health Mission, Managing Director Sh. Prabhjot Singh, Director General of Health Services Department Dr. Veena Singh, Health Services (VBD), Haryana Dr. Usha Gupta and other officers of the Health Department were present in the meeting.
