Slamming the Narendra Modi-led BJP government on the issue pertaining to the centralization of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh; the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang said that the PU is the heritage of Punjab and the Bhagwant Mann government will not let this heritage to be usurped at any cost.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Sunday, Malvinder Singh Kang accused the Modi government of expropriating Punjab's resources and heritage.

“AAP will fight from the streets to Parliament against the Modi government's decision to take over Punjab's heritage educational institutions,” said Kang.

He said that Panjab University (PU) is a constitutional, emotional and historical right of the state of Punjab. “This is our glorious and magnificent heritage.

PU has achieved remarkable achievements in the fields of research, sports, education, and politics. The Aam Aadmi Party will not compromise on the protection of Punjab's heritage and rights,” asserted Kang.

The AAP leader further said that Panjab University is the heritage of a united and great Punjab and the institution has earned a leading-edge reputation.

He said preserving this heritage of Punjab after the partition of the country, it was first established in Shimla and then in Punjab’s capital Chandigarh.

“Therefore, Punjab has the sole and exclusive right on Panjab University and no central government can take away this heritage from Punjab,” added Kang.

Further accusing the ruling BJP along with the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal Badal of robbing Punjab of its rights and destroying its heritage, Malvinder Singh Kang said, “These parties which ruled Punjab for a long time, have ruined all the great universities of the state.

The Modi government now wants to take over the deliberately economically-weakened Panjab University under a conspiracy; so that the uniqueness of Punjab and the spirit of ‘Charhdi Kala’ can be eradicated.”

Reiterating the commitment of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bhagwant Mann-led state government to protect and save the existence of Panjab University, Kang said that the Modi government would not be allowed to acquire PU at any cost.
