Monitoring committee of NGT reviews progress of District Environment Plan for SAS Nagar

Monitoring Committee of National Green Tribunal (NGT) under the Chairmanship of Mr. Justice (retd.) Jasbir Singh, today held a high level meeting with the officers of the district administration at District Administrative Complex, SAS Nagar to review the progress of the District Environment Plan for SAS Nagar.Other members of the NGT Monitoring committee included, Mr. S.C. Aggarwal IAS, Former Chief Secretary, Punjab, Dr. Babu Ram, Technical Member.Officers of district administration who took part in the meeting were Mr. Amit Talwar IAS, Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar, Mr. Amardeep Singh Gujral PCS, ADC (D), SAS Nagar; Smt. Pooja S Grewal PCS, ADC (UD), SAS Nagar; Smt. Navjot Kaur PCS, Commissioner, MC, SAS Nagar; District Heads of various stakeholder departments.

Disclosing this Mr. Amit Talwar, Deputy Commissioner said that during the meeting, the progress carried out by all stakeholder departments with regard to compliance of activities mentioned in the District Environment Plan for SAS Nagar relating to various environment aspects such as Solid Waste Management, Domestic Effluent Management, Air Quality Improvement, Bio-Medical Waste Management, Plastic Waste Management, C & D Waste, Legacy Waste etc. was discussed in detail. Suggestions to improve the environment of the district were shared by the NGT monitoring Committee with the stakeholder departments present in the meeting.The NGT Monitoring Committee appreciated the progress made by the stakeholder departments and directed to expedite the work to meet the prescribed timelines as mentioned in the District Environment Plan for SAS Nagar. NGT Monitoring Committee also revised some of the timelines for activities on which work could not be intiated due to some reasons or they are ongoing .
