The World Liver Day is observed globally on 19th of April every year with an aim to raise awareness about liver related diseases. To commemorate World Liver day, an interactive session on liver health was organized at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, in collaboration with G.I. Rezdezvous and GLF, Chandigarh. This event was jointly coordinated by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre and Health Centre of the University.The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu. Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, spoke widely about the need of Liver health awareness, especially calling upon the youth to have liver-healthy food and exercise routinely. Many eminent scholars attended the session and spoke about the liver health. Guest of Honour of the day, Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar, MLA, stressed for the need to take good care of one's liver and Dr. Ajay Gupta, MLA, also spoke how to keep one's liver healthy.
Other speakers included Dr. HP Singh, Medical Director, Fortis-Escorts Hospital, Dr. KD Singh, Medical Supdt., Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar, Dr. RS Sethi, President, Indian Medical Association, and the Speaker of the Day was Dr. Arke De, Nodal Officer, National Virus Hepatitis Control Programme, Deptt. of Hepatology, PGIMER,Chandigarh. He enlightened the audience of the importance of the healthy liver for our survival and motivated to adopt the healthy lifestyle and avoid alcohol, drugs, eating junk, oily and greasy food sine everything one eats or drinks passes through the second complex organ Liver. He emphasized that the liver diseases are a significant cause of mortality amongst the masses and prevention is better than cure. Dr. De talked about the ways to prevent Hepatitis A,E,B and C.The Vice-Chancellor of the University honoured the distinguished guests with the Coffee Table Books as mementos. He also admired the efforts made by G.I. Rezdezvous, especially Dr. Gurbilas, Convener of the organization and Dr. HP Singh, Director, Awareness and Public Activities of the organisation. The Dean, Academic Affairs, Dr. Behl, Dean, Students' Welfare, Prof. Anish Kumar Dua, the Registrar, Prof. K.S. Kahlon and all the Heads of the departments and the faculty members, researchers and students were present and praised the efforts put in by the worthy Vice-Chancellor.
