Skiing destination and Winter Sports
It is a heartland of winter sports across India and was rated seventh best ski destinations.skiing and other winter sports like tobogganing, snowboarding and heli-skiing take place on the slopes of Mount Apharwat Peak at an height of 4,267m (13,999)ft reachable by Gandola.Also, the Gulmarg Ski Resort at over 8,600 feet offers smooth slopes to both amateurs and skiing professionals. In the winter season, skiing on the powdery white slopes of Gulmarg is exhilarating. Professionals can opt for the more advanced heli-skiing.The first-ever Khelo India Winter Games was held in Gulmarg of Jammu and Kashmir. Around 900 participants take part in that event which was Organised by Ministry of Youth affairs and sports in Collaboration with J&K Sports Council and the Games was held in various sports disciplines at this famous ski resort Kashmir.
Gulmarg Gundoola
Considered as one of Asia's longest and highest cable car ride, this entire ride comprises of two stages-Gulmarg to Kongdoori, and Kongdoori to Apharwat Peak.The first phase of the ride takes around 9 minutes, while the second phase takes about 12 minutes. Get panoramic views of the beautiful snow-capped mountains, valleys and forests.The timings for the ride is from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The fee for phase-1 is Rs. 700 and for phase-2 is Rs. 900.Chair car rides are available for phase-2 at an additional cost of Rs. 300.The gondola can ferry 6 people at a time and 600 people per hour
Golf Course
It is one of the largest 18-hole golf course in the country. Situated at an altitude of 2,650 meters, it is also the highest green golf course in the world.If you are interested in a game of golf, you can hire golf sets from professionals registered with the Tourism Department.The golf course remains closed from December through April, due to snowfall.It remains open from 08:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The entry fee is Rs. 800 for Indians and Rs. 1200 for foreigners.
