Rana Gurjeet Singh, Cabinet Minister, Department of Technical Education, Employment Generation, Skill Development & Training, Horticulture, Water& Soil Conservation, and Punjab inaugurated a roundtable on "Designing a Robust System of Skilling of Young Workforce from Punjab (India) to enhance the Overseas Migration Outcomes" today.Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura, Advisor to Govt. of Punjab, (Skill Development and Technical Education) welcomed the Honorable Cabinet Minister and distinguished dignitaries in roundtable conference.Hon'ble Minister has emphasised that,the Punjab Govt. is working on providing skills to the youth in various trades which is helping them gainful Employment in the foreignCountry. He has further said the Govt. is working to the Qualityas well as skilling the youth of Punjab witch will help the Youth to get migrated legally and for better jobs.Hon'ble Minister has shared with the gathering, the Govt. of Punjab is working out a policy to Establish International Skill Centres.These skill centers will reduce the gap between the skills required in youth in the foreign country and the present Skills of the youth which will make the Punjab as the supply chain for the skilled workforce and professionals for the foreign countries and will help in providing employment.

Cabinet Minister also mentioned about setting up of regulatory authority to monitor the unlawful immigration activities done by unscrupulous agents.The roundtable conference was held at Global Platform which was attendedbyAbbagani Ramu Joint Secretary MEA, Govt. of India, Caroline Rowett,British Deputy High Commissioner, Chris Ryan,Director, Govt. of Alberta, Michael Huynh Director ICCRC, Director,Prof (Dr). MahadeoJaiswal, IIM Sambalpur, Prof. Dr Madan Pillutla Dean, Indian School of Business, Mohali & Hyderabad, Mairead Bree First Secretary, British High Commission,Director, M.K. Aravind KumarEmployment Generation, Skill development & Training, Punjab, Shabarinath Nair Officials from ILO and Officials of Govt. of Punjab etc. The session was first of its kind and around 450 delegates in 4 sessions attended the roundtable, which laid the foundation of interaction among the High Commissioners, Ambassadors, International Training Partners, forum Universities, Recruiting agents and Experts to share the views on designing a Robust Model of skilling In India and Capitalize on our Countries Skill workforce to create Economic value in the Century of destination. This Platform has provided an opportunity for all stake holders to witness the strength of State of Punjab as the supply chain for skilled professionals.Prof. (Dr.) Chandan Chaudhry said ISB and the Government of Punjab are focusing on understanding to facilitate Skills to youth of Punjab to meet the demand of skilled workforce in the foreign countriesthrough structured migration Programme. Such initiatives can help to improve the overall economic development of the nations' productivity and enable the transfer of skilled workforce globally.

The main agenda of the conference was designing a robust model for skilling in India for overseas migration, understanding the skill requirement in UK, Canada, GCC countries involving Embassy, Training partners, Potential Employers, Accrediting agencies; understanding how India's skilled workforce create economic value to the countries of destination; how to ensure that India's migrant workforce does not become a liability but an asset to the "countries of destination & viewing India as a supply chain for skilled professionals to the countries of destination 

The roundtable was consisted of 4 sessions:

Session 1: Macro-level Perspective of Overseas Migration (UK, Canada & GCC) - 1240 hrs to 1340 hrs

Session 2: Registered Agents for Overseas Migration through work Permit, Study Visa, and Permanent Resident Status– 1500 hrs to 1600 hrs

Session 3: International Training Partners, Foreign Employers, AccreditationAgencies & India International Skill Centres (IISCs)- 1800hrs to 1930hrs

Session 4: Regulated Immigration Consultants of Canada/UK/GCC – 2000hrs to 2100 hrs

There was a great response by the panelists and Govt. has seen great positive outcomes from this roundtable conference.

Shri Kumara Guru thanked Honorable Cabinet Minister for sharing the valuable comments and extended vote of thanks to all dignitaries.
