DLSA Pulwama organizes awareness on legal services to senior citizens

The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Pulwama under the aegis of National Legal Service Authority of India and J&K Legal Service Authority today organized a Legal awareness program on ‘Implementation of NALSA Scheme of (Legal Services to Senior citizens)’ at Kashmir Creative Education Foundation (KCEF) Law College, here.Chairman District Legal Services Authority/ Principal District and Session Judge Pulwama, Abdul Rashid Malik was the Chief guest on the occasion.The awareness programme was aimed at spreading legal awareness among the people living in the far-flung areas of the district.The DLSA launched various programmes, including legal awareness camps and talk shows on the activities of the legal services and availability of legal aid as part of the campaign.The Chairman DLSA directed the concerned to visit the far-off and remote areas of the district, where resource persons spoke on free legal aid, the POCSO Act, central and state government schemes for children, women’s rights, child helpline and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence.

He encouraged the participants to take active part in legal awareness programmes and avail the benefits of the schemes and services provided by the DLSA.“Knowledge of legal issues is necessary for the creation of a healthy society,”?he said.NALSA along with other Legal Services Institutions undertakes various awareness activities in order to make people aware of their rights and about the role, activities and functioning of the legal services institutions.Specific issues are taken up for legal literacy programmes varying from place to place depending upon the needs of a locality and its people. Internship programmes are organised for law students to promote the role and importance of legal services activities.The Chairman informed that the DLSA provides legal training to students and the students in turn can reach out to people especially in remote areas in accessing legal aid and services and he assured the DLSA will assist these institutions in rolling out these Legal Support Centres within the respective institution.Earlier, Secretary DLSA, Pulwama, Rayaz Ahmad Choudhary Secretary DLSA Shopian, Feroz Ahmed Khan, President, Bar Association, Gh Mohiuddin Dar, Rayees Ahmed Faculty Law Department, Students of Law College and other concerned also spoke on the occasion.Later Secretary DLSA Shopian presented a vote of thanks.
