District Administrations across Kashmir conduct cleanliness drives to commemorate ‘Gandhi Jayanti’

On the eve of 152nd birth anniversary of Father of the nation, M K Gandhi, the respective District Administrations across Kashmir today conducted cleanliness drives within their office premises. On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioners, Officers and Officials of the respective districts took the Swachhta Pledge which was administered by the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha through virtual mode with an aim to keep surroundings clean and free from filth and garbage.During the Pledge taking ceremony participants expressed their strong will to live by the ideals of the Father of the Nation and to serve mother India by keeping the surroundings neat and clean.The participants pledged that they will devote 100 hours per year, that is two hours per week, to voluntarily work for cleanliness and will neither litter nor let others litter. Besides, they will initiate the quest for cleanliness with themselves, their family, their locality, their village and their work places. They also expressed confidence that every step they take towards cleanliness will help in making our country clean. At Budgam: The District Administration Budgam today conducted a Cleanliness drive across District Offices to commemorate the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. In this regard all District/Sectoral officers conducted Cleanliness drives within their office premises and administered pledge to the staff with an aim to keep surroundings clean and free from filth and garbage.A Swachhta pledge was also held at DC office conference hall wherein Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam along with officials of District Administration pledged to keep office, home and its surroundings clean.Later, the DC visited Panchayat Ghar, Sheikhpora where he interacted with PRI  functionaries and residents of the area.Speaking on the occasion, the DC urged the public to keep surroundings clean as part of social and moral obligation. He said that 'our focus should be on promoting a clean environment and maintaining good sanitation.'The DC also participated in Gram Sabha proceedings wherein resolution to keep the area clean was passed through installation of dust bins and segregation of waste at household level.A similar program was held at District Court Complex Budgam where a cleanliness drive was launched by Principal District and Sessions Judge Budgam Mohammad Ashraf Malik. Among others, Secretary DLSA Fouzia Paul, E.O MC Budgam also participated in the cleanliness drive.At Ganderbal: To commemorate the 152nd Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a pledge taking ceremony was today organized by District Administration Ganderbal at Mani Secretariat Complex, here.On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Krittika Jyotsna, Officers and Officials of the DC office took the Swachhta Pledge.

Later, a cleanliness drive was organized at Mini-Secretariat Complex Ganderbal by the District Administration in which Deputy Commissioner, officers and officials of District Administration and Municipality Ganderbal participated.During the drive, plastic and other non-decomposable waste was collected which was disposed of appropriately. Paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, the DC said that Gandhi Ji always gave the message of cleanliness and the duty of every citizen is to contribute to this common cause to keep surroundings clean.At Pulwama: In order to commemorate the 152nd Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a pledge taking ceremony was today organized by District Administration Pulwama here at District Administrative Complex, here.On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer Ul Haq Chowdhary, Officers and Officials of the DC office took the Swachhta Pledge.Later, a cleanliness drive was organized by the District Administration across the district in which all the concerned officers and officials participated.During the drive, plastic and other non-decomposable waste was collected which was disposed of appropriately.Paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, the DC said that Gandhi Ji always gave the message of cleanliness and the duty of every citizen is to contribute to this common cause to keep surroundings clean.At Anantnag: On Gandhi Jayanti, a series of Swachhta/ cleanliness drives were held across Anantnag district, here. The cleanliness and awareness activities are part of the Clean India Programme being organised under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and also form an important component of Swachh Bharat Mission.Inside DC office premises, a cleanliness drive was conducted wherein the President MCA, Hilal Ahmad Shah, ADDC, Bashir Ahmad Wani, CEO MCA, ACP, ACR, other district and sectoral officers, volunteers of NYK, YSS and Safai Karamcharis participated.Cleanliness cum awareness drive was also organised by District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with District Administration and Municipal Council Anantnag. Principal District and Sessions Judge, Naseer Ahmad Dar, President and CEO MCA, Secretary DLSA, Mir Wajahat, other officers/officials of District Court and Safai Karamcharis of MCA participated in the drive.The officers along with the volunteers and Safai Karamcharis conducted a march through the main market and interior and residential areas of the town which culminated at the Town Hall. Colour coded dustbins were distributed among the shopkeepers and residents besides the importance and procedure of "segregation of waste at source" was elaborated to them. 

During the march, on spot awareness about current targets/pursuits of SBM and the role of general masses as well as the key stakeholders was imparted. Placards encouraging people to engage in cleanliness activities were also displayed on the occasion.  Earlier, the officers of district administration and sectoral/district officers were administered the Swachhta Pledge.Speaking on the occasion, the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Dr. Piyush Singla said that cleanliness activities should form our routine and coordinated efforts must be made by the officers to enhance the cleanliness quotient of the district. He impressed upon the officers to set the example from their respective offices and ensure those become visibly clean in next two weeks. Later, the DDC along with ACD, DPO and other officers visited Bulbul Nowgam and participated in the Special Gram Sabha, here. The DDC called upon the participants to use this viable and vibrant platform for projecting their genuine aspirations and demands. He also impressed upon them to mobilise the masses adequately so that the Swachhta Movement becomes a community led and community owned one. This way they will participate in such drives with enthusiasm and make valuable contributions in the cleanliness of their Panchayats, Villages, wards and surroundings, he remarked. Further, colour coded dustbins were distributed and their proper use vis a vis the collection of the waste was explained to the people.Similar activities were held at other offices, public places, municipal areas and Panchayats of the district. The officials, general public and their elected representatives besides other stakeholders took part and pledged to work in unison for achieving palpable progress in cleanliness and sanitation parameters of the district.

At Shopian: To commemorate the 152nd birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, the District Magistrate (DM) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya administered a ‘Clean India’ pledge to officers and officials of all the departments of the district here at mini Secretariat, Arhama, here. All the officers and employees of all departments of the district participated in the oath taking and cleaning ceremony and pledged to keep the country neat and clean, remain committed towards cleanliness, devote at least 2 hours every week for cleaning activity, and to inculcate the habit of cleanliness among children and family members. The pledge was administered in English and Urdu .Speaking on the occasion, the DM exhorted the employees to fulfil Gandhiji’s vision and dream of Clean India. Cleanliness is a befitting homage to Gandhiji on his birth anniversary who dreamt of clean India, he said adding that Sanitation is more important than political independence and clean India is the best tribute we can pay to Bapu when we celebrate his 152nd birth anniversary in 2021.DM further added that cleanliness has a direct bearing on humans, their health and families. “It is our collective responsibility to keep our surroundings clean. Therefore, we all must come together and participate actively to make India neat and clean for our own healthy and hygienic future.Besides, IATM Government Model Degree College Shopian also celebrated the cleaning drive in collaboration with District Youth Services and Sports office Shopian , in which hundreds of students and faculty members participated and started the cleaning drive from the degree college and the drive culminated at Gole chowk Shopian.At Kulgam: In order to commemorate the 152nd Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a pledge taking ceremony was today organized by District Administration Kulgam here at Mini Secretariat Complex, here.On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner , Dr.Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat administered Swachhta Pledge  to the Officers and Officials here at Mini-secretariat Kulgam.During the Pledge taking ceremony participants expressed their strong will to live by the ideals of the Father of the Nation and to serve mother India by keeping the country neat and clean.Speaking on the occasion the DC said that it is the duty of every citizen to contribute to this common cause to keep surroundings clean.

Meanwhile Swachhta Pledge ceremonies were also held in other offices as well and cleanliness drives were also conducted at these offices.During these  drives,  plastic and other non-decomposable waste was collected which was disposed of appropriately.At Bandipora: As Part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and to commemorate the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad on Saturday administered the Swachhta Pledge to the Officers, Officials of the Mini-Secretariat, here.Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zahid, Additional Deputy Commissioner Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Parvaz Rahim, Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, District Information Officer Jahangeer Akhoon and other senior officers of the district were present on the occasion.The pledge ceremonies were also held at Sub Divisional Level, Block Level and Tehsil Level wherein the respective SDMs, BDOs and Tehsildars administered oath to the officers and officials. Similar ceremonies were also held in all the colleges of the district.Speaking on the occasion, the DC urged the officers to ensure cleanliness in their offices and in their respective areas. He said a month long calendar has been drafted for cleanliness and during this month, besides cleanliness drives, sensitization and awareness programmes will also be launched among the masses. He said the focus is on the proper disposal of the solid waste, use of dust bins and avoid littering waste on road sides.The district administration launched a massive cleanliness drive across the district including Schools, Hospitals, Colleges, government offices, public parks and water bodies.A massive cleanliness drive was also launched by the District  Administration and  District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Municipal Council Bandipora at Banyari village in Wullar Lake. The drive was inaugurated by Additional District Development Commissioner Ali Afsar Khan  while Secretary DLSA Faiq Nazir and Chairman Municipal Council Bandipora Khursheed Ahmad was also present on the occasion. Dr Owais on the occasion stressed upon  scientific disposal of waste and said that the dumping of wastes should be carried out in a proper manner in rural and urban areas. He said household wastes should not be thrown in open grounds and places as this will lead to hazardous results for our environment and health, he told.He said that, Wular Lake being one of the largest freshwater lake is the home to thousands of migratory birds and it is our responsibility to preserve the ecology of the lake as well as the habitat of migratory birds.The ADDC said the district administration is working on establishing a major waste management plant in the district that will help in scientific disposal of all the waste of the district so that water bodies especially Wullar is protected from getting polluted.Similar  awareness program on fundamental rights and fundamental duties besides an Anti polythene Drive was launched by District Legal Services Authority Bandipora in presence of District Sessions Judge Bandipora in Gurez. SDM Gurez, Sub Judicial Magistrate Gurez, Principal GDC Gurez, Tehsildar Gurez, Executive Engineer SSD Gurez and all other sectoral Officers of Sub Division Gurez also participated in the said programme.As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mohtsov, Governemnt Degree College Ajas also organized online webinar on the theme "Gandhi and Humanism: The Felicific Calculus". Cleanliness Drive was also launched in District Hospital Bandipora, Sub-District Hospital, Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres under the supervision of Chief Medical Officer, Dr Bashir Ahmad.
