The first green cremation furnace system was launched today by South Delhi Municipal Corporation at Green Park crematorium.  The use of green cremation furnace system can result in saving of wood and avoid cutting of trees.South Delhi Municipal Corporation Assistant Commissioner Manish Meena ITS  and Vishwa Hindu Parishad Delhi, President Kapil Khanna and Vishwa Hindu Parishad Kendrya Mantri Prashant Hartalkartoday launched the Green Cremation Furnace System for people of Green Park area Delhi.  On this  occasion it was said that the green cremation furnace system should be expanded throughout the country so that the environment can also be  conserved and 2 to 3 trees saved per cremation.  Sunil Gulati, retired IAS Officer &  former Special Chief Secretary of Haryana Government, Municipal Councillor Radhika Abrol, Municipal Health Officer LR Verma, Distt Health Officer Dr Tuli and Vishwa Hindu Parishad Project Coordinator RAHUL ji  were present on the occasion. It is noteworthy that in India and Nepal, cremation has been done since the  time immemorial.

Trees have been cut as a result of cremation.  Presently there are 28 trees per capita in India, 102 trees in China and 716 trees in USA. About 2 trees (400 kg to 600 kg wood) are required for cremation of a person.  About 110 lakh human beings die in India every year. Out of  which 70% are "cremated".  About 260 crore kilograms of wood or 30 million trees wood is required for their cremation.  Burning of  wood also produces millions of tons of carbon dioxide gas aa well as ash.Studies have revealed that about 400 kg to 600 kg of wood and 300-400 cow dung Uplas are required for the cremation of a person.Dr. Ramji Jaimal, a dedicated environmentalist, has been very successful in motivating villagers located in bordering district areas of Haryana and Punjab for the last 12 years in self-financing green cremation  kilns. For the first cremation in a green cremation furnace, only 60-80 kg and after the furnace is heated, only 30-40 kg of wood is used for each cremation.  In a day, 4 cremations are performed by  the green cremation furnace. The Jain Klan Foundation of the United States has provided funding for five green cremation furnaces. Environmentalist Dr. Ramji Jaimal is leading the implementation of the project costing about Rs 3 Lakhs only which does not need any electricity and CNG and works on the principle of Heating the body to 760-800 Degree centigrade so that Body Fats which are 68% of the body take over and eco-friendly cremation happens.
