A resident of village Hakam Wala of Mansa district, S. Prabhjit Singh, who was martyred while on duty due to a recent heavy snowstorm at Siachen Glacier, was cremated today with full national honors at his native village Hakam Wala. A large number of administrative, police, Indian Army officials besides political leaders and other dignitaries paid their last respects to Shaheed Prabhjit Singh. On behalf of Punjab Governor Mr. VP Singh Badnaur and Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Sukhpreet Singh Sidhu laid a wreath on the body of the martyr. ADC said that the people of the country would always be proud of the soldiers who gave their lives for maintaining the honor and dignity of the country. On behalf of the Punjab Government and the district administration, Expressing deep sympathy with the father of martyr S. Jagmel Singh, Mother Smt. Melo Kaur and other family members, he said the government would extend all possible help to the family of the martyr. He also informed that the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh had announced Rs. 50 lakh ex gratia grant and a government job for the next to kin of family of Shaheed Prabhjit Singh. On behalf of SSP Mr. Surender Lamba, Mr. Rakesh Kumar paid homage by placing wreaths. Other dignitaries who paid floral tributes included MLA Budhlada Mr. Budh Ram, former MLA Mr. Mr. Ajit Inder Singh Moffer, SDM Mr. Sagar Setia, Subedar Bhupinder Singh of 21st Punjab Regiment, District Defense Services Officer Col. Maninder Singh Randhawa, C-Pite Center Bodawal and Other personalities including Labh Singh, family members, village dignitaries were also present. The pyre was set on fire by the elder brother of the martyr S. Pritpal Singh. Attendees also chanted 'Shaheed Prabhjit Singh Amar Rahe'. Meanwhile, a contingent of 3 Medium RT Bathinda paid homage to the martyr and gave him a guard of honor. It may be recalled that 23-year-old Shaheed Prabhjit Singh had done 10th from Government High School Hakamwala and 12th from Government Senior Secondary School Boha and had joined 21 Punjab Regiment about 3 years ago.
