While speaking in the Lok Sabha, Dr Amar Singh MP Shri Fatehgarh Sahib condemned the recent decision by the Central Government and its procurement agencies to demand land ownership records of farmers for the upcoming wheat procurement.Dr Singh said that when procurement had been done for so many years without the land records how is it feasible to collect this data with wheat procurement about to start. He said that this was very disturbing coming on the back of new quality norms for procurement and was a tactic to put pressure on Punjab farmers and Punjab Government and bid to create tension among them.He said that over 130 Lakh MT of wheat would be procured from Punjab and Punjab was the largest contributor to the central pool. These contributions of Punjab’s farmers needed to be respected by all Governments.
