Punjab School Education and Public Works Minister Vijay Inder Singla reviewed the procurement arrangements being made in Sangrur district for the wheat procurement season to be starting from April 10 and directed the administrative officers to make all the arrangements before the arrival of wheat in Mandis. Vijay Inder Singla said that the Congress government would ensure that the crop brought by the farmers in the mandis should be procured within a day as it has been done during its entire tenure.Mr. Vijay Inder Singla said that Sangrur district contributes a major share in the procurement of wheat from all over Punjab and in the last season, 12,11,077 metric tonnes of wheat was procured in the district which is also likely to increase this time. He directed the administrative officers to provide all the required facilities in 211 mandis, set up this season and also to arrange the gunny bags before the commencement of the procurement.The Cabinet Minister also directed the administrative officers to ensure proper arrangement of lights, clean drinking water and toilets in the mandis apart from other arrangements. He said that in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, masks and sanitizers should be provided in every Mandi and farmers should be constantly alerted about the precautions to be taken regarding coronavirus. Mr. Singla appealed the farmers that the crop should be harvested only when it is fully ripe and all the instructions regarding prevention of coronavirus should be followed while bringing the crop in the mandis.On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Ramvir, SDM Sangrur Yashpal Sharma, DFSC Tarwinder Singh Chopra, Member All India Congress Committee Kulwant Rai Singla and representatives of procurement agencies were also present.
