The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat today inaugurated a mega Kissan Mela–cum-Exhibition here. The mega Kissan Mela–cum-Exhibition was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Kulgam under centrally sponsored Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme.The DC on the occasion inspected several stalls setup by Agriculture, Fisheries, Horticulture, Apiculture, Sheep and Animal Husbandry and other departments displaying various items related to agriculture and allied sectors.Addressing the gathering of farmers, the DC urged the farming community to take advantage of various schemes in vogue for their welfare. He directed the concerned to generate awareness regarding various schemes and latest farming techniques which can go a long way to boost Agriculture and allied sectors.He said there is huge potential and scope in Agriculture and allied sectors in the district and the district administration shall work proactively for this sector.During the programme, the Chief Agriculture Officer Kulgam apprised the farmers about various schemes and new farm technologies which are yielding significant and positive impacts on ground.Participants were also informed about various facilities like soil testing, construction of vermicompost units etc.Meanwhile during this programme, progressive farmers were felicitated, encouraged and Sanction letters and farm machinery was also distributed among the beneficiaries.The programme was attended by District Development Chairperson, Mohammad Afzal and other DDC members, Additional District Development Commissioner, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, officers from Agriculture and Horticulture departments, field functionaries and scores of farmers.
