With around 30% working mothers working in the District administration Complex Mohali, It was a felt need to have a crèche facility established in the district administration premise. With an aim of serving all employees who are managing a tedious task of balancing professional and personal commitments, a solution to provide a playroom was conceptualised by Ms. Manisha Rana, IAS (Assistant Commissioner Under Training) along with Priya Singh (District Development Fellow) in consultation with the Deputy Commissioner of SAS Nagar, Mr Girish Dayalan, IAS. The central idea was to provide a safe space for children to play, enjoy, learn and grow together while their parents discharge their official duty. The facility includes variety of learning toys, music, puzzles, games, building blocks, alphabets, painting and threading equipment, children basket balls, sleeping cot etc. along with the LED, computers with internet facility. The ergonomics of the setup is also kept in mind to minimize any risk to kids playing in the area. Proper security arrangements are put into place including deputing of 1 dedicated care taker and round the clock CCTV monitoring. The facility will be open from 9 am till 5 pm, additional hours will be allowed depending upon the need.

Feedbacks from the beneficiaries:-

“I really worry about my children being at home alone, especially during weekends when their schools are closed but we are required to attend office for covid reporting, but with this facility in office I feel very relaxed that my kids are going to be in safe hands and I can always go and check on them”, says   Uminder Kaur (Data entry Operator, Data Cell SAS Nagar) “It’s a very good support for all the female employees whose children are young and in need for support, especially the ones who need breastfeeding. Our productivity in office will also increase. I have 2 kids, one is less than a year old, another is 3 years old, I used to really worry about my kids during my office hours, Many a times when there is nobody to look after my kids back home, I either take leave or get my kids to office. I am really happy that DC office has established a crèche, I no more have to worry about my kids’ whereabouts, says Sukhdeep Kaur (Constable at SSP office, deputed to Data Cell SAS Nagar)
