Indian Army Celebrates Swarnim Vijay Varsh

To celebrate the Swarnim Vijay Varsha commemorating the military victory of the Indo-Pak war of 1971, Swarnim Vijay Mashaal being carried to various part of India had reached Vajra Corps area of responsibility on 01 Feb 21. Thereafter, it made its journey through Ferozpur & Hussainiwala sector and arrived at the holy city of Amritsar (Panther Division) on 24 Feb 2021.Today, Major General Raju Baijal, General Officer Commanding Panther Division paid homage to the brave soldiers of 1971 war at Dograi War Memorial, Khasa Military station.  It was followed by a felicitation ceremony wherein a cultural programme comprising of bhangra by college students, Army Pipe Band display and patriotic songs were sung by Army Jazz Band.  Thereafter, Shri Jaswant Singh, nephew of 2nd Lieutenant Shamsher Singh, MVC (posthumously) of 8 GUARDS was facilitated with a medallion, who had made the supreme sacrifice during the 1971 War while fighting the enemy in the Eastern Sector in Bangladesh.  In addition, eight Veer Naris whose husbands had laid down their lives while fighting for the nation were also felicitated.The facilitation ceremony was also attended by Mrs Laxmi Kanta Chawla, Former Cabinet Minister of Punjab Govt, Shri Gurpreet Singh Khaira, Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, Shri SPS Parmar, IG Border Zone, Amritsar, Shri Suckchain Singh, Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, Shri Bhupinder Singh, DIG, BSF Sectt HQ, senior officers from Army and BSF.   Veterans and students from NCC and Army Public School, Khasa also formed part of the ceremony.  The Victory Flame will be taken to the famous battle grounds of Attari, Ranian, and Pulmoran. The glorious victory in the 1971 war is a matter of pride for all Indians, especially for the Vajra Corps, who had upheld the Indian flag from the nefarious designs of the enemy and is proudly identified as the ‘Defenders of Punjab’.
