Lok Sabha MP from Jalandhar Chaudhary Santokh Singh, MLAs Mr Sushil Kumar Rinku, Mr Rajinder Beri and Mr Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal today called upon people to play a pivotal role by coming forward to save girl child thereby making them equal partners in the socio-economic growth of the country.Addressing the gathering during celebration of ‘Dhian Di Lohri' in Ghurka organised by NGO World Wide Scope Welfare Society, the Lok Sabha MP and MLAs said that it was the need of the hour educate and empower the girls for making India a front ranking country in the world. They said the state government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has taken various initiatives to empowerment of women. They said that the path breaking initiative of the Captain government to reserve 50% seats in Panchayats, Urban Local Bodies along with government jobs was a step forward towards it.They told that ‘Dhian Di Lohri’ was a great endeavor, which could play an important role transforming the destiny of girl child in the society. They also underlined the need for such sustainable efforts throughout the year for disseminating its message in a far more effective manner. They also said that such functions were in line with the path shown by the great Sikh Gurus, who taught us to give respect to lady, which gives birth to the Kings and Royals.The MP and MLAs said that today girls were leading in every sphere whether it was academics, sports or other.They also congratulated the organizers and others for taking this noble initiative. On the occasion, the MP and MLAs also distributed sweets and gifts to mothers of girl child on the occasion.Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included DSP Mr Sarabjit Singh Rai and others.
