With Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying the foundation stone of new Parliament building here on Thursday, the Congress flayed the move as "playing DJ music in a funeral ground" and claimed that various institutions were getting "devalued"."The decision to lay the foundation stone of the new building is heartless, senseless and shameless, at a time when the nation is going through economic recession. The BJP instead of giving concession is taking out extravagant procession," remarked Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill."This act is equivalent to playing DJ music inside a funeral ground. On one hand, the BJP through black farm laws has run a bulldozer over farmers' livelihood and on the other it is spending public money on constructing buildings that are not needed but merely to satisfy its ego," he added.Shergill claimed that the act of laying the foundation stone of new Parliament building as part of an ambitious Central Vista plan was like "opening a cake shop after snatching the bread from the farmers."Congress Chief Spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said: "Dear PM, Parliament is not mortar and stones; it envisions democracy, imbibes Constitution, economic-political-social equality, compassion and camaraderie. It is the aspirations of 130 crore Indians.""What will a building built by trampling these values represent?" he asked. The Congress has been opposing the Central Vista project and sought its scrapping.Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament building and also performed its 'Bhoomi Pujan'. The four-storeyed building over 64,500 square metres would cost Rs 971 crore.
