Day after Pradesh Congress President Prof  Saifuddin Soz chose to downplay the ‘infighting’ within the state Congress, his predecessor and senior leader Peerzada Mohammed Syed on Wednesday said the growing ‘factionalism’ in the party was ‘unfortunate’ and could prove detrimental to the party interests .“Lobbyism is unfortunate as this would definitely affect the performance of the party”, Peerzada told KNS on Wednesday. He, however, welcomed the re-appointment of Prof Soz as the state Party Chief and said that the decision should be acceptable to everyone ‘as it has come from the high command’.Expressing surprise over the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statement regarding the pre-poll alliance with Congress, Pirzada said: “We haven’t made any offer for alliance to anybody. When there isn’t any offer how could people reject that”?The former State Ogress President, however, said that the alliance with National Conference was based on Common Minimum Program (CMP) and added that his party had an alliance with PDP in 2002 based on a CMP.“This govt. has done so many good things. We had two turbulent years and despite that the government was able to carry on with the development programmes”, Said Peerzada citing the example of ‘holding important Panchayat elections’.The Senior Congress Minister also defended the party stand on the Afzal Guru hanging and said that Prime Minster Dr Manmohan Singh has already made a statement on the issue and he (Pirzada) stands by it.Pertinently PM had expressed his dismay over the way the hanging was handled by the Union Home Ministry and had said that Guru’s family should have been given an opportunity to see him for last time before hanging”
