National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR, Chandigarh) celebrated its 53rd Annual Day. Keeping in view the present pandemic situation, the programme was organised in an online mode.Shri Madhu Ranjan Kumar Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education (Department of Higher Education), Govt of India released E-Souvenir brought out to mark the occasion of Annual Day of the Institute. Shri Madhu Ranjan in his presidential address extended his best wishes to the institute and  said that during COVID-19 institute has done fabulous job to train more than fifteen thousand faculty across the country. He appreciated the tremendous and exponential progress made by the institute in multifaceted direction during the past three years, under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Pattnaik, the Director of the Institute.Prof KK Aggarwal Chairman National Board of Accreditation (NBA) graced the occasion as a Chief Guest. Prof. Aggarwal inaugurated the newly developed Conference Hall with a capacity of more than 80 persons with all latest facilities of smart classroom and audio visual aids. He congratulated NITTTR, Chandigarh on this special day and conveyed his best wishes. He said NITTR has to play a vital role in New Education policy (NEP-2020).Prof S. Anantha Ramakrishna Director, CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour at the occasion. During his address, he said in this pandemic area NITTTR should take initiative to develop Robotics for teaching and translate the technical books of repute in different regional languages.

Earlier, Prof SS Pattnaik, Director NITTTR presented Institute’s Annual Report. He said that NITTTR, Chandigarh is one of the premier institutes of the country specializing in bringing about excellence in technical teachers training and education having facilities in a variety of specialized engineering and technological sciences. Since its establishment in 1967, the institute has played a pivotal role in developing highly competent teachers and other professionals, both in India and abroad.Dr Pattnaik highlighted some of the outstanding achievements of the institute such as Patent  Filed, Invovation and research project, Training of teachers, Infrastructure, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS) developed, Curriculum  and Instructional Material  design as per industry requirement.An Open Forum Discussion on ‘New Education Policy (NEP 2020)’ was organized in which the faculty members suggested the ways and strategies for its implementation, especially the changes in the Higher Education suggested in the Policy.While moderating the Open Forum Discussions, Prof Parmod Kumar Singla, the Faculty Incharge Administration of the institute presented some of the significant aspects of the NEP 2020.  It was concluded that the New National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, is a good policy as it aims at making the education system holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, aligned to the needs of the 21st century .The intent of policy seems to be ideal in many ways but it will be a challenge to implement it in its letter and spirit. NITTTR Chandigarh will have to play a pivotal role for its successful implementation of NEP 2020.
