Simranjit Kaur, the first Punjabi boxer to qualify for the Olympics, has been presented a cheque of Rs. 5 lakh by the Punjab Government. The cheque was handed over by Punjab Cabinet Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Mr Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi to Rajpal Kaur, mother of Simranjit Kaur at Ludhiana today. It may be recalled that the Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh had recently called on the boxer Simranjit Kaur at his office and announced a reward of Rs. 5 lakh from the Punjab Government.Disclosing this here today Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi said that Simranjit Kaur was the first Punjabi boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games. He claimed to have won a silver medal in the competition and to have attended the world's largest sports arena. He said that this boxer was also a beacon for the girls of Punjab who wanted to make their future in the new sport of boxing.He said that this was an extraordinary achievement of the daughter of an ordinary family and every possible help would be provided to the state government to move her forward. Punjab Government to bear the entire expenditure of Olympic preparations, Sodhi said.

On this occasion, Rana Sodhi said that this boxer from village Chakar of district Ludhiana started his career from the village itself. He won a bronze medal in the Junior World Championships in 2013, a bronze medal in the Senior World Championships in 2018 and a silver medal in the Asian Boxing Championships in 2019. Is busy preparing for the next Olympics.Mr Rana Sodhi said that the 'Mission Fateh' launched by the Punjab Government to restore normalcy in the state was running very successfully. Under this mission facility and better opportunities are being provided to different sections. Simranjit Kaur's mother Rajpal Kaur thanked the Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and the Punjab Government and assured that with the hard work and cooperation of the Punjab Government, Simranjit Kaur would win the gold medal in the Olympics. On this occasion District Sports Officer Sh. Ravinder Singh, Senior Youth Congress Leader Harkaran Singh Vaid and others were present.
