Dr Amar Singh MP Shri Fatehgarh Sahib met Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar ji and requested him to expand assured procurement by central agencies to maize, oil seeds and other crops to protect farmer incomes.Dr Singh informed the minister that except wheat and paddy for which there is assured procurement, full MSP could not be availed by farmers for any other crop. This was the reason why 93% of the land in Punjab was under food grain cultivation. In view of ongoing farm crisis and the pressure on farmers it made sense to expand and not limit assured procurement of every last grain of crops by central agencies. He added that this would also help reduce the pressure on Punjabs under ground water table.
