In order to maintain aesthetics of world famous Dal Lake, Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) has started its deweeding on massive scale. The deweeding  operation will be carried out both manually as well as mechanically. The area to be manually deweeded along the periphery of Lake has been divided into 32 sections for which  e-NITs were floated and contracts awarded.Every year around 1500 labourers are engaged for the purpose of removal of weeds through manually while mechanical deweeding is  already in place since March, 2020.The Authority has a target of removing about 10 lac sqmtrs of weed manually and about 25 lac sqmts of weed mechanically this year. The  weeds mainly sprout in late spring and during summers it covers a large area of lake, and is pertinent to mention that deweeding is continuously being done to maintain the lake  aesthetics.Meanwhile a team of Enforcement Wing led by Enforcement Officer  LDA and SDPO Nehru Park on the specific information regarding illegally excavating earth  filling/boulders from the Maloori Nallah on intervening night of 22/23-05-2020,   visited the spot and found that Two tippers bearing Reg. No:- JK01AG-0754 & JK01AF-3417  were  illegally  loading Boulders from the said Nallah in clear violation of Hon’ble High Court Orders. The drivers of the trippers fled from the spot leaving loaded illegally excavated earth  filled tippers onspot. However after seizure of the documents the concern Police station was intimated for safe custody of the tippers for legal proceedings in this regard. All the  Tripper/Load carried owners are directed not carry / ferry any construction material in the prohibited area of Dal/ Nigeen Lake without getting permission and in case anybody  found shall be dealt as per law.
