With a view to bringing uniformity in the fees structure of all Government and private medical colleges in the state, the Medical Education and Research Department today made partial modification in the earlier notification and issued corrigendum in this regard.Disclosing this here today, the Medical Education and Research Minister OP Soni said it was found that private medical colleges and universities were taking exorbitant fee from students against the fee structure implemented in 2015. The Minister said that the Adesh University was charging Rs. 16.50 lakh from students pursuing for MD instead of fixed fee of Rs 6.50 lakh annually, which put extra financial burden on the students aspiring for medical education. Mr Soni said after assuming the responsibility of the department this issue came to his notice, which was completely illogical. He said that he took personal interest in this issue concerning the future of medical students. He said that directions were given to the department to initiate efforts to resolve this issue in the right earnest by bringing uniformity in fee structure of all institutions as well as Government and private to bail out the students willing to go for medical education from financial burden. He said after following requisite proceedings in this regard a corrigendum had been released which paves a way to bring uniformity in fee of medical colleges and universities. The Medical Education and Research Minister said that now the fee for MD/MS ( Clinical Courses) at Dayanand Medical College Ludhiana, Christian Medical College And Christian Medical College Ludhiana, Sri Guru Ram Dass University of Health Sciences Amritsar, Desh Bhagat University and aadesh University Bathinda would be Rs. 6.50 lakh per annum while the entire fee of these courses in NRI quota seat is US $ 1.25 lakh. The Minister pointed out that the previous SAD-BJP Government had ignored this serious issue and AAP had never raise this issue in Vidhan Sabha. Lashing out at Akalis and AAP leaders for indulging in cheap politics over the issue, the Minister warned them to refrain from politicking the issue. He said that the leaders of opponent parties never spoke with him on this issue and when the corrigendum had been  released they started making hue and cry just for their vested political goals.
