Keeping a strict vigil over the crime along law and order situation amidst the Covid 19, the Jalandhar (Rural) Police todaybusted an interstate gang with recovery of 18 kilograms of Opium, through human intelligence and technical investigation, involved in smuggling of Opium by concealing it in the stepney of the truck.Divulging the details, the Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal said that the Jalandhar (Rural) Police had got a tip off that an interstate gang was involved in smuggling of opium in the state. He said that subsequently a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Sarabjit Rai laid a trap near Bidhipur on the National Highway Number one. Mr. Mahal said that the Police party intercepted a truck PB 06 V 9692 and during the checking the Police party recovered two kilograms of opium which was tied to waist of truck driver Lakhvir Singh s/o Ajit Singh in a special broad belt adding that the same type of belt was also tied on waist on Angrej Singh s/o Jaspal Singh, who was accompanying the driver in truck, and two kilograms of Opium was also recovered from him. However the Senior Superintendent of Police said that during further checking of the truck the Police also recovered another two kilograms of opium which was hidden amongst the jaggery. He said that during the investigation it came into light that these people used to smuggle the Opium from Uttar Pradesh into the state. Mr. Mahal said that through technical investigation the Police party also analyzed that something was still fishy in the entire episode and the driver and his accomplice was hiding something from the Police. The Senior Superintendent of Police said that on suspicion during the investigation the Police party then opened the stepney (spare tyre) of the truck and recovered 12 packets of one kilogram opium each. He said that thereby a total haul of 18 kilograms of Opium was recovered from the accused. Mr. Mahal said that a case under section 18-61-85 has been registered against the accused and further investigation was being done.
