Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Mohammad Nazir Sheikh today distributed free ration for the month of April to poor and needy souls at Atti village under Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalayan Anna Yojana to ensure that no one sleep hungry in the district during countrywide lockdown amid COVID19.Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalayan Anna Yojana is a central government scheme launched during the lockdown period amid COVID19. It aimed at distributing 5 kg food grains per soul and one kg pulses per family for three months. This is over and above the monthly quota of subsidized food grain of 5 kg per person under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).The DC said that the initiative is recognition of the need for support and an attempt to reach out to impoverished residents of the district. He also said that the process of the distribution of free ration for the month of April under PMGKAY shall be completed by April 28, 2020. He added that district administration has already taken number of steps to ensure that no one in the district sleeps hungry during this period.DC added that every possible effort is being made to provide all the basic facilities to the common masses at their doorsteps so that they do not face any difficulty in their daily life in these days. He said that district administration is working tirelessly to ensure that enough food grain stocks are made available in every part of the district during the countrywide lockdown to mitigate the sufferings of the common masses.Assistant Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs informed that there are 101927 families comprising 406673 souls of PHH and AAY to be covered under PMGKY. He said the distribution of free ration for the month of May and June under the Scheme will commence from April 28.The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Additional Superintendent of Police Liaqat Choudhary, Assistant Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Mukhtar Ahmed Lone, District Information Officer Narinder Raina, Sarpanch panchayat Atti and other officials.
