Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma today called upon the Academicians and intellectuals to play a proactive role in preserving the glorious culture, heritage and mother tongue of our state.In his inaugural address during the International Punjabi Literature Festival here at the local HMV College, the Deputy Commissioner said that since ages Punjab had been cradle of civilisation and culture in the world. He said that our mother tongue Punjabi was the richest and sweetest language across the globe. Mr Sharma said efforts must be made to preserve and spread this language across the globe for which strenuous efforts needs to be made by one and all.However, the Deputy Commissioner said that this movement must be led by intellectuals and academicians who could act as lighthouses to guide the destiny of youth on one hand and preserving Punjabi language and culture on the other. 

He also cautioned the young generations that any sort of detachment from the mother tongue could pose a serious danger to basic survival of the human being. Mr.Sharma that Punjabis were blessed with indomitable spirit of hard work and resilience through which they have ever excelled in life.The Deputy Commissioner expressed hope that with this spirit, the Punjabis would make countless efforts to save and promote Punjabi language, art and culture. He also said that language was a living organism which evolves by every passing day. Mr Sharma also hailed the decision of Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab Sahit Academy to organise this event.On the occasion Principal of College Dr Ajay Sareen welcomed the dignitaries to college.Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included President Punjab Sahit Academy Dr Sarabjeet kaur Sohal, President Punjab Sangeet Natak Academy Mr Kewal Dhaliwal, Dr Atamjeet,  Dr MS Sharma, Dr Ravail Singh, Dr Satish Verma, Dr Gian Singh Kang, Dr Navroop Kaur and others.
